Flew a C182 to Long Island for Christmas. Was an absolutely gorgeous flight on the way there.

Pic 1 - Initial climb over the clouds out of ROC

Pic 2 - One of the finger lakes

Pic 3 - A distant sunset look at NYC

Pic 4 - The Atlantic on the way to Montauk for some sight seeing

As for the way home... thinking about starting another thread for that one...

Nope... just flew circles around the light house so the fam could take pics. Was a really nice flight though.

On the way back, yes. Night IFR with some actual. (Since now I'm a wanna-be freight dawg and all.:))

On the way there, nope. Went VFR direct. That first pic looks like a solid layer, but it was actually very scattered which cleared up pretty quickly.

When I saw Pic 1, I was sure it is an IFR flight. I am yet to experience to fly above the clouds and actually really want it. However, I always have this thought that once I climb above the clouds, those scattered clouds will become overcast and than what I am going to do with my VFR?

Yeah, the pic is deceiving... it was actually pretty scattered.

And I knew from the forecast the clouds would dissipate, and they did well before I got to my destination.

As for flying above the clouds, just give me a call when the conditions are right!
