I had this nearly happen to me in CAK in a CRJ900. The winds were howling, and the FO rapidly took out the crab, which caused the left wing to drop. It was damn close to this. Inches, perhaps. The ground crew witnessed it, and thought that the wing had hit, but we got lucky.

Yup. A couple things I thought of:

A regional pilot drags a wing tip and it doesn't cartwheel. Good thing they have their ATP.

Will the investigation determine that the crew was somehow connected to Gulfstream Academy?

A plane spotter in McAllen, TX? I've been there and it did not seem like the cool place to be to catch arrivals. Maybe with the border right there it is possible to get some interesting international traffic I guess.
