Riverside Flight Center (Tulsa, OK)

They are on the same grounds as Spartan College of Aeronautics. You may want to make sure they have no affiliation with them. You don't want any piece of that nightmare. The housing looks the same as what Spartan puts you in also. Lots of car vandelism when I was there.

Check out Tulsa Tech Center across the runway, the big building with the red roof. We get a lot of Spartan students after they realize their school isn't recognized as an accredited college outside of Oklahoma. And it's cheaper on the east side! Right now I'm building Duchess time at $120/hour wet.

If you call ask for the advisor, Pat Watkins. Really nice lady.. (918) 828-4041.

SUS_RVS,

The link took me to OSU...what is Tulsa Tech Center? Is that separate from OSU, or do they just have a contract to train pilots for OSU?

Did you ever look into Riverside Flight Center? What are your thoughts on them?

Thanks

Riverside (What a great little airport! (no sarcasm))

Did my private at Robertson on the west side back in '00-'01, loved the small FBO feel with plenty of great little 150s/172s. Many friends went through or started at Tulsa Tech / OSU on the East side. GREAT facilities.

Have read about Riverside Flight Center but no experience, I would second the recommendation for the Tulsa Tech Program with OSU, its a fully accredited college that has a name that is easily recognized. If you start there, you can easily transfer to the main campus or another major university (or stay there to finish). If you do go to Stillwater, join the Flight Team; I can't say enough good things about OSU's program (or almost any other University that has one). I've heard rumors that OSU-Tulsa is going to start there own team, should be a great program.

Prices at Riverside Flight Center seem VERY high for those ratings...

Good luck

(Do they still have the 727 for the Maint guys and for CRM? That thing looked awesome out front.)

Thanks PoeMan...the only reason i was looking into Riverside Flight Center is because i have VA benefits and they are Part 141. I'm having a really hard time finding Part 141 schools in Oklahoma. I'm just about ready to give up on trying to use my VA benefits all together. The local FBO is starting to look better and better!

You should be able to use VA money at OSU-Tulsa / TCC (give em a call to see). As far as 141 schools in Oklahoma...

Searched the AOPA Flight Training page and got this...
Looks like Durant, Altus, Ardmore, Lawton, Norman (they closed), OKC, Stillwater and Tulsa all have 141 schools. (http://www.aopa.org/learntofly/school/index.cfm)

I don't know how up to date the list is (Norman is still on there) so you might call OSU-Tulsa / Tulsa Comm College to see if they're 141 yet.

Good Luck!

well here is my two cents!! .. I am originally from Tulsa. I am now at Delta Connection in Sanford FL. Nothing about Tulsa got me here, I was just saying where and who.. haha.. anyway, I graduated from OSU Tulsa with my bachelor in Aviation and did my Inst, Comm ratings at the "osu flight center" at RVS. Very nice facility, there was a guy who was there on VA at the time I was there. One thing about the school I didn't like was that it seemed that they had (at the time 2002-2003) no connection with helping their students/high time instructors find jobs. I knew of several instructors there who had over 1200 hours and were still teaching there when I left. That dosen't necessarally mean anything but I do know it was difficult for instructors to get multi time as these "high time" instructors ruled the roost and took all the multi students.. between that and the one always broken dutchess that we had to share between SWO and RVS. I was in town over Christmas and went to Christiansen to rent a plane and a lady there said OSU Tulsa Aviation program was no longer there, that all their flight OPS moved back to SWO. There was one Rick Mangrum, assistant chief flight instructor who was a royal pain in the ass also.. haha.. I'm sure there is still a flight department there at the facility but I am unsure if it is run by OSU. As far as RVS flight academy, I believe its fairly new. I don't believe it was there at the time I was. I agree with the previous poster about Spartan students coming over to the "east side".. Sorry about the poor writing style.. I just wrote what thoughts came to me as I typed.. Good Luck

Ricky sorry I didn't catch this earlier but I attended SOSU in DUA. A great small school with good airplanes thats 141 and takes VA bennies. If you lookin for a 4 year school that place will get you pvt-cfi,cfii, and multi for around 40k and that includes flying and schooling.

having trained at OSU and now working at Riverside Flight Center, i can tell you that you will spend about 60% as much by flying at RFC. The training at RFC is tailored to your needs. If you tell Yuri (chief pilot, and owner of the school) that you want your private in 3 weeks, then you will get your private in 3 weeks (weather pending). RFC offers the hard to come by mentality that you are the paying customer; and we will customize a training course to fit your needs. In response to cessna_cpt, though located next-door to Spartan, there is no affiliation with that "nightmare"

Yeah, I checked this place out when I was looking at schools. It ended up being my second choice. The people are nice there and the prices are reasonable.

I know this is a late reply to an old topic, but just FYI on Riverside Flight Center. They have nothing to do with Spartan. Somebody said they share the same spot on the airport. Well.......I guess.....in a way, they're right next to each other. They have a lot of Indian pilots now. A few instructors from Spartan ended up over there after they couldn't hack it at Spartan. One instructor who's there now bellied in a RG. Another couldn't pass the interview which is c-a-k-e. All it is flying an arc with failures thrown in. Now, I'M IN NO WAY BASHING RFS, I'm just simply putting the info out there. Believe me, Spartan has more than there fair share of de-de-deee CFI's as well.
