I am wanting to get started applying for cfi jobs, but alot of places want a resume or an application filled out. I am not quite finished with my training my initial cfi is complete but I won't have all my degree requirements until my cfi-i is finished. I will have that complete around the end of this month and my mei will be complete by the middle of March. Should I make a resume with the projected times and ratings on it and put an availability date on it. I have sent a few emails decribing my position and my intent to a couple of flight schools and was sent a response by one of them to send them a resume. Also, this will be my first flying job that I am trying to get other than being a crewchief but then again I wasn't driving the plane only a crewmember, how should my previous experience be portrayed- military enlisted 6 yrs and truck driver almost 10 neither one relates well to what I want to do now so how would some of you put that on a resume.I am not quite sure how to proceed, any help or ideas would be appreciated.

Having been involved in the hiring process of two CFI's, and reviewing many resumes, here's what I'd recommend. Include a cover letter with your resume that explains your plans and estimated timeframe for the completion of your CFII/MEI. If you aren't looking for a job until those are complete, let them know in the letter. However, it will be up to you to contact them when you are done. Don't expect them to hold onto your stuff and call YOU at the end of March.

As for previous experience, definitely include your military experience. At the very least shows you have worked as part of a team, are a proven leader, someone who is safety conscious, etc..., plus you should always include what your last job was (provides insight to the person, especially if it's not aviation related). As for truck driving I'd only include it if you need to fill space, or if you can find a way to relate that experience and what you learned from truck driving to instructing.

My two cents...

Try and find commonalities between the jobs and highlight them. If you worked as part of a team and were the leader as a crew chief talk about how you had to monitors your teams actions to make sure they were correct, teach them if needed and instill confidence in them.

Truck driving talk about being dependable and timely and any other areas

As far as the in process ratings/degree just give an expected completion date.

Good luck!
