Resume Question

Doug's Resume on the front page has been a good framework for writing my own... but at the bottom, is it really necessary to put the date of birth, height and weight, passport number, etc? Won't they find this out for the most part at the interview?

No.

In fact, a lot of that stuff was pre-9/11 and pre-identity theft in the mid-1990's. In those days, employers filed your resume/coverletter using your SSN so people often included them on resumes in order to make it easier to file your CV.

But nowadays, don't do it! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Dude! Welcome back. Where ya been?

And I agree with Doug. No personal information that can be used for identity theft.

I read resumes all day long - you do not need all that info, and by all means do not add a picture - that just makes us laugh!

FYI, I pretty much stole Doug's resume and put in my own info (minus the personal info at the bottom) for my Techincal Report Writing class at ERAU. Scored a 100. Thanks Doug! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I'm back from my "eternal cross country" from ATP, all CFI-ied up and ready to teach. I miss ATP already, but I'm happy to be home. Everybody I met at ATP was awesome, and I hope to keep in contact... I have an "interview" with my FBO that I grew up at, which will involve celebrating with a beer with the chief pilot. I'm probably going to instruct here for a year and get the feel for instructing, but I'm really nervous about my first students. Remember, 1 year ago I was a student pilot, 3 months ago I was a private pilot, and all of a sudden I have all my CFIs and about 400 hours... scary stuff.

Congrats on finishing up at ATP. I'll be heading to Manassas in January, any tips?

Is your local FBO at Oxford airport in CT?, that was the first airport I ever flew out of (behind the wheel).

haahaaa! I came back from my 2-month US-tour and only recognized one CFI, Tony, who was there. He was like "uhhh, man, we thought you died or left the program or something." I suggest bringing some sleeping supplies that can fit compactly as sometimes you'll be in the crew appartments on mattresses. No problem, but with the way some of those guys air-condition the place, it would be time to prepare for the next ice-age.

I also suggest having full trust in ATP no matter what the circumstances. They will get you done, although it may seem hectic or disorganized. I would describe the program metaphorically as a metamorphosis into chaos with a firm resolution of solitude and feeling of completion, as if one were an old man nearing death after a long and productive albeit crazy life.

COGITO ERGO SUM!

I'm over at DXR at Danbury Flight School if anyone wants a lesson to "test the waters." I promise I will not bite!

Thanks for the advice. Yeah, I plan on bringing a sleeping BAG -not a comforter/blanket. I'm also hoping to get my writtens out of the way before I start and lighten up the load.

The instructor I "interviewed" with, Chris, said he was heading down to the Norfolk location when it opened up, so he's probably there.
Did you apply to be an ATP instructor or were you always planning on heading home to the local FBO? Was dealing w/ the ADIZ a pain or good experience?

Good luck w/ the instructing....

yes, getting those writtens done saves a lot of stress in the long run. Chris a.k.a. "SOCKS!" was over there when I was too, and is now nearer to family in Norfolk I guess.

The ADIZ was explained to me as "free flight following." While it is required everytime you want to leave the pattern, it usually just involves a couple of minutes (give them departure time, altitude, minutes to CASANOVA VOR,) and file one for the return. The controllers are usually very nice and get you through right away. The only problem I ever had was getting through to FSS (Leesburg) at all- sometimes on busy good-VFR days on the weekend I would wait 30minutes to talk to a briefer. But then again, you would have called them anyway to get the weather.

Once you start flying IFR, you really don't need to worry about the ADIZ.

Oh another tip: don't stalk your fridge as you near your IFR checkride date. Soon afterwards you will be sent on your cross countries and may not be (as in my case) back for quite some time. Let me tell you, after two months, bananas and oranges in the fridge develop some interesting colors.

I knew you single guys did some weird things but "stalking the fridge" is a new one to me.
