Resources for FW Air Ambulance

I was interested in possibly working in Air Ambulance ops.

Over on the Angry Pilot Central site its fairly easy to obtain information about Airline companies such as pay, bases, schedules, etc, etc.

Is there any kind of resource like that for Air Ambulance companies ?

I live in Cocoa Florida. Reva looked like it might have been a good fit for me but they require that you live within 35 minutes of FLL. I'm assuming that will be the case for most companies ? Is there any companies that have a call out like the airlines (2/12)?

Sorry if that sounds kind of dumb but I'm kind of new on the airplane side of things being a prior FlingWinger. After couple of hours looking around I wasn't able to find any info like I was asking.

Thanks

There is not a site for them that I know of. I can’t imagine having a call out time for air ambo-at least more than ~30 minutes. The mission just doesn’t allow for that. Maybe some of the international operations that do transport to specialists or “Home to die” flights I guess.

I think you’d have to be a special kind of person to want to commute for Medevac, especially if you have any family to speak of. It’s a great gig if you live 2 miles from your base.

I figured that was the case but had to ask :)

No, don't want to commute just didn't see anything near where I live... wasn't sure if home basing was a possibility in Air Ambulance :)

Guess if I really want to get involved then I need to move. :(

The map was very helpful.

So for a newb.... what would be the negative connotations ?

thanks

I guess the best way of putting it is that the “bad ol’ days” of on demand 135 from 20-30 yrs ago are alive and well in south FL.

There are some operations using worn out Lear 35s or Citation 500/550s and moonlighting RNs and PMs for the med crews, ie no dedicated crews who only fly. They have a call list and go down it until they have a crew. The pilots are on call 24/7, and the duty/mx records belong in the Fiction section of the local bookstore. I remember seeing a Lear 25 from down that way not long ago. When it was new, that was a heck of a bird. Now, they belong on top of a pole somewhere.

If you look at one of these places, look at who owns the aircraft, NTSB records, use these sites to look for former employees. Trust but verify—try to talk to more than one.

Your best bet might be on the RW side to get in the door and stay in FL with a national company. If you want to finally sit on your 4pt of contact for days for days on end, then put in for a FW opening if one comes up in FL or if your in a position to move.
