Reserve Pilots.... Time Killing Ideas

Just curious what other guys who live in base do on their reserve days? Volunteer? Exercise? Xbox? etc?

Anyone in Atlanta like Tennis or softball or anything? I've gotten into such a horrid routine and I'd like to shake up this funk. If you look at the time stamp, it's 3:30 AM local for me.... that is exactly part of the problem.... I sleep half the day and stay up overnight. I really don't want to do this, but the lack of work gives me lack of motivation to fill up my days.

Any ideas would be great.

Correspondence / online Masters degree?

That's exactly what I was going to say. If I ever get to upgrade and subsequently have a few years of reserve ahead of me, I'm going to get my Masters.

Working out passes the time if you don't mind running with your cell phone in hand.

I am Mr. Mom while on reserve. I try to spend as much time as possible with my daughter during all of this down time that I have been having because I know there won't be many opportunities like this when I transition to the Maddog this summer.

When I was on straight reserve I tried to do something productive, but most often I played on the internets. :) If I knew I was going to be on reserve for a long time I'd bring the Playstation as well.

Try to hang out with your crash pad buddies - you'll be surprised by how much fun you can have just by taking a walk together or playing some sort of board game!

+1 for school.

Spent many a ready reserve assignments completeing a week or two weeks worth of school. Then again, I didn't have to worry about a student loan thanks to government benefits.

Unfortunately I don't live in a crashpad...

Trade your double bed in for some bunkbeds. Leave a huge bag of individually packed condiments and three-month old lunch meat in the fridge. Never EVER clean the bathroom. Drag your luggage around the room at 2:00 am. Then you'll see what you're missing.

Oh yeah, make it three sets of bunk beds and share the room with five other dudes. Aaaaahh, that's livin'.

I kill time by enjoying my days off. :) Other than that, it's watching movies on the rare airport reserve shifts I DON'T get called. Back when I actually HAD days I didn't get used on reserve, I'd either volunteer at the zoo or play Xbox. I'm behind on both now.

I travel somewhere every couple of months to maintain my sanity. That, xbox, bbqing and gym pretty much fill the days. It gets old but hey it's a paycheck.

I kill time either through xbox or reading. Since going back on reserve in September, I have read 11 books. Then again, I like to read (always have).

I like the Rosetta Stone stuff. Just focus on one language at a time. You'll get tired of seeing those damn pictures of cats, dogs, planes and horses. :)

I get tired of cats (5), dogs (1), planes (work), and the occasional horse (trips back home) without Rosetta Stone! :insane::D
