Renewing passport as a pilot

Hey guys, im coming up on my first passport renewal at the start of next year since i've been flying professionally. . I've heard stories of it taking a while so i want to get started early. My question is what is the best way to do this? I currently fly corporate with a fair amount of international flying so i or my company cant really afford to have me not have a passport for a stretch of time. Just wondering from your experiences whats the best course of action to renew without being stuck without a passport for nay amount of time?
 
Go to a passport office and take your passport and company ID with you. Explain that you're a pilot and you need it expedited same day or within 24 hours. Most offices should get it done for you. I've heard of some strange requests as a requirement to have a letter from the Chief Pilot's Office.

Don't pay an expeditor fee unless you just absolutely can't make it to a passport office. That can run you over $500 to get it done same day or next day even

I just renewed mine at the end of May. Make the appointment for right when they open. I renewed mine in Seattle and did not need a letter nor an itinerary, just my badge. You'll typically get it that afternoon unless there is a problem (past due child support, felony, probation etc.)

MSP required me to show my schedule for same day renewal. I was in and out in a couple hours, minus a picture snaffu with the one I had taken at CVS...
 
Yep, two passports.

But the quick option is to just print out a • international flight plan from ARINC or fltplan.com and go to the expedited line. That's what I did before my current job.

One more piece of advice, do not wait to get your picture done at one of those places near the office! Get to the local drugstore or Walmart otherwise you will pay 10 times the price, literally.
 
If you're put of reach of a passport office, look into G3 passport services. They can turn a renewal and secondary passport around in about 5 days.
