Red Bull Flugtag

I'm assembling a design team together for the Red Bull Flugtag in Cleveland on August 18. If you haven't heard about it you build a human powered flying machine, run down a ramp, and plunge 30 feet to the water below. If anyone has some design ideas, let me know because I want to be original and we would like our pilot and craft to glide into the water, not plummet.

Maybe we should do a jetcareers.com team, (don't worry Doug, no legal affiliation) that would be pretty cool. I know we could come up with something that flies pretty far. Maybe ESF will let us build it in his living room. If you'd like to know more about the event, here's a link.

I'd be up for that.. too bad I'm all the way over here on the west coast. I was watching them on TV a little while ago. I think it was ESPN that covered it.. None of them seem to fly heh.

I'd help you out, but I'm way out in the pacific northwest. I could give you some ideas though. Since none of them seem to fly, according to matt anyway, go with originality. Dress up in a bird suit and ride a unicycle down that ramp then take a 30 foot plunge.

Are you going to log it? I asked a bunch of professional pilots and they said just to get ahead, that they'd go ahead and put it into their logbooks.

Haha!

I'd be game, we'd have a Team JC; too bad I'm on the other side of the country! They recently had one in Santa Monica though...

I'm all the way up in pgh.. but would be up for helping out ... no classes this summer for me .. just work and flying a heck of a lot..

That would definately be fun. Last year I saw it when it came to chicago, and it was pretty intresting seeing the unusual flying machines. Wow we got all these new smiley faces

Too bad they only allow one person per human powered flying machine. Maybe I can get them to allow two people and we can both log it as multi time!

Sure...go for it!

lol...seriously, if you need anything, being that I live near Cleveland, shoot me a PM. I'll help out however I can (except being the one that gets launched off the ramp).

Put a CFI in the back and a guy under the hood and you can all log it!

If the aircraft has substantial damage do you have to call the NTSB?

I volunteer for that one! That would be kind of cool, if you ask me.

I agree with you Tony, I too think it would be cool to take the plunge. One plus is I've always wanted to have 30,000 people screaming for me, and this might be my only chance! Either that or my band will sell out and we'll become a one hit wonder. I think I'll stick with the flugtag idea.

I saw the website on that last year and it looks like a BLAST!!! I'm not sure what I could do from here.. but if you need some help, let me know!
