Recent Flight EXP.

I would also have the student record the ENTIRE checkride.

Recording a checkride is not as easy as it sounds and not worth the effort. The argument is very similar to having 121 CVR's recording all the time. No one wants that.

But more importantly a CFI may sit in on the entire checkride as an observer. Why not just do that?

ref. Chapter 5-4 of the DPE handbook: http://www.airweb.faa.gov/Regulatory_and_Guidance_Library/rgOrders.nsf/0/7f85cd99697aa59d86256f700076ed32/$FILE/87103D-C05.pdf

6. CARRIAGE OF PASSENGERS DURING PRACTICAL TESTS. The practice of carrying
persons other than those participating in the practical
test must be limited to individuals who have a
legitimate interest in the practical test.
A. Authorized Persons. Per sons who may be
carried during a practical test include:
(1) Persons preparing for a similar practical
test.
(2) Authorized instructors assigned to similar
flight training activities.
(3) The applicant’s instructor.

Kinda tough to not use our school's DPE without burning any bridges.

There is no such thing as a "school DPE." They are independent contractors assigned to a specific geographic area. Your school may supply them with a steady stream of applicants, but you are in no way required to use any one in particular.

If your school tells you who you have to use, I ask, "who is the CFI and who is endorsing the student?"

Egg shells dude, walk carefully with this one. Everybody makes mistakes or slips up.

Just to get this right, she is asking him to do the multi x-c's again? wat?

Call Frank Phillips in Easton for a second opinion and see what he says about the time. He used to be a fed inspector if I recall correctly, though I would be non-commital and not mention you're from fdk just to keep things friendly.

Edit: I should add for everyone else that Frank is also the second of only three DPE's authorized by the Baltimore FSDO.

Good Idea,

I have Franks cellphone number if you want it. PM me.

I would start looking for a new DPE if she is sure the time can't be used. That isn't the kind of training knowledge I'd want to be disagreeing with a DPE on.

Yeop. The place I went to flight school had a DPE on payroll. He got everyone but the commercial applicants (that was the "deal" they cut with the FSDO to get their "special curricula" commercial program approved with less than the 120 hours under 141) and the "self examining" students (private, instrument and CFII - as the initial).

I did my CFI single and Commercial Multi checkride with him.

He's good. He's thorough. He's fair. He was still "the school's" DPE.

while i dont mean to split hairs, the DPE was on payroll for your school - but there are 2 facts:

1. The DPE could examine applicants outside of your school
2. FSDOs can designate an examiner to a school, but that is not the only one a school must use. It's usually because students don't know any better, the instructors don't stand up for their piviledges against management as CFI's who endorse the applicant, and they are afraid of being fired for the previously mentioned statement.

Not according to what he said about his contract with them. Whether that was true or not, I don't know. At the time, his story was that the was only able to do students from that school...per his agreement with them. They needed someone to be available when they needed someone. If someone finished up at 2pm and needed a checkride at 2:30, they needed to be able to do that. So they paid for that ability.

Make no mistake. He was most definitely their DPE...if you know what I mean.

I won't disagree with that.
