Really small regional airline flying

What kind of job conditions and pay would someone expect if flying for one of the real small little Florida airlines that flys scheduled and charters to the Bahamas?

Are you talking something like Chalks Ocean? Or Gulfstream? :p Or pure charter? It depends, but the airlines here wouldn't pay very much...look at Big Sky Airlines pay scale, since they are doing a bit of flying filling in for Chalks.

As far as pure charter, for the most part, Florida sucks!!! Be vary wary of any jobs in the MIA and FLL areas...some very shady operators there. And just completely avoid Southern Air (I think that's their name in TPA).

Let us know if you're looking at somebody specifically...

I know airlines like WinAir and Air Caraïbes (based out of St. Maarten) are pretty stable and very safe. Not sure about pay but I know WinAir is hiring. They fly twin otters and BN-Islanders. They have some US pilots.

I guess you were looking for Bahamas. The above are in further South in the West Indies.

well, there is florida coastal airlines, they fly cessna 402's on 121 and 135 ops. I beleive the are based out of st. lucie county.-Steve

Don't forget about Cape Air, also. They do a lot of Caribbean flying and pay is pretty decent for flying 402's.

FCA is no longer in FPR. they havent been for a long time.
they have like one or two 402's rottin on the east end of the airport.

Yeah all the Ortega era pilots had to take concessions after the satellites were trained on them and profits for that mode suffered. Speaking of which, I heard you don't even need a commercial to fly for them!

I found this link regarding WinAir hiring.

You could probably email them. Some of the WinAir pilots sounded like they had American accents so maybe they do accept FAA certifications om the islands.

The pay would probably suck tho. They fly a lot of under 20 min flights. Basically, like an air taxi between the smaller islands. AXA-SXM-SBH-EUX-SAB-SXM. I used to fly them alot on these routes. When I'd talk with the pilot's they all said they were studying for the JAA in order to fly in Europe.

And be careful about the accents. Many of the folks on those islands were born in the USVI so have USA citizenship and have spent a considerable amount of time in the mainland.
