So, tonite is the night....after 2 weather postponement, my cfi buddy is taking me up in a c172sp out of potomac airfield in maryland and in the DC FRZ...we are going to fly to college park and it will take us just east of dca-national and the mall and all of that prohibited area along the mall and the white house. im not sure when reagan will be layed in state, but if hes in there tonite it will be my pleasure to make the "ceremonial flyby" in his honor.....anyhow, ill take some great pics and send them to someone to get theme posted. can someone who is willing to post pm me so i can email them.
 
Uh, unfortunately, I've got some bad news for you. As someone who has flown out of there, you don't really get a good view of the White House, or anything like that. Sorry, dude!
 
For those of you in the DC area, has there been any talk of any TFR's (Other than the current ones) for the city this week due to Reagan's body or the funeral service? I am supposed to fly to Dulles in a brand new 172 on Wednesday from NY...
 
NOt too sure but it is very possible. Pres. Bush has offered and I believe The Reagan family has excepted, Air Force One. GW has offered to have AF1flown to CA to pick up the former President and his Family and then return them after he lies in State.

I know the airspace around there...i didnt expect to go over midtown...i was kidding about that part. but i am pretty excited to get a closer look than from 6000 ft over stafford(krmn) of DC.

TFR's.....probably nothing more than the usual ones for the FRZ and the ADIZ. maybe one issued if airforce one is passing overhead....i always check on that though when i file my adiz flight plan or get the weather.
 
There's a 30nm TFR to FL180 and a 10nm no-fly zone for GA around the Reagan Library at this moment, affecting 9 airports--LAX, SMO, BUR, VNY, WHP, CMA, OXR, SZP and L70. My guess is that'll about cover the fly-bys, ceremonial or otherwise.

Yeah, sucks to be in CALI huh.....good thing im so used to the FRZ and the ADIZ that its all i know.
 
You can get a pretty good view of Mt. Vernon. And the prohibited area around it only goes to 1500 feet (check your sectional to be sure) so you can fly right over that if you want.
