Hey JC'ers

Here are some pictures and videos from the past two weeks of flying. Lots of different weather and some nice sunsets...I think the title of this post is an album name? Sounds familiar...ah, well.

Hope the pics aren't too big! Sorry if they are. :( Yell and scream and kick and maybe I'll fix 'em. :)

On the G1000 pic, there is a yellow line that runs from the SW and winds its way to the NE. Has 12k next to it. Does that indicate winds aloft?

That's the freezing level. Note the box on the far right of the screen

Good as always! Are you going to be in the Tampa-ish area this next week?

Saturday I'll be out of state, Sunday-- could be in the Tampa area..maybe Cedar Key, though? Next weekend I'll probably be at Sun'n'Fun. Things are up in the air right now. :dunno:

If you do end up making it over to the Tampa area, let me know.

Nice pics! What do you think of the DA-42?

It sucked. My dispatch rate over 10 flights was 20%. Maintenance problem after maintenance problem, parts took weeks to come in. For the rental price per hour, the comfort, performance, and range aren't there. It's like sitting on bricks, only does around 150KTAS at 85% power at 12,000, and range with three or four people is worthless. Also, I dislike the joystick. I love yokes and sidesticks, but the joystick took away the area I use for my kneeboard and whatever else I keep in my lap. The only positive thing I could say about it was the FADEC-- that was pretty cool. From what I hear from other guys with DA-42 time, the general consensus is the same-- slow, uncomfortable, maintenance hog.

For a local training aircraft, go for it as long as you bring pillows for you ass and back. Even with pillows, after two hours, your back and butt hurt. As a personal aircraft to fly places-- don't even bother considering it.

Nice shots. One of these days I'm going to remember to bring my camera to work.

I wish I'd taken more pictures when I was flying in FL. Been in and out of MLB many times myself. Good times.

Same thing I've heard from some others. What does it run you per hour on that thing?

Rented out of a Central Florida airport for $299/hr, or $289/hr after a 30-hour upfront purchase (Amazing discount!!!!...not). I'm glad I didn't drop $9,000 dollars up front to fly this piece of junk. I'd be screwed out of way more than half of that! I'll omit the name of the airport in this post for the sake of the FBO. It's in all the videos, though. ;) The FBO, otherwise, was a great place. The plane...just...awful.
