The pay is really the same as working at McDonald's?

I think there are license premiums added to that also, but this is just a job to get a foot in the door from there it will be way easier to get hired in the majors

At 16.51 it is probably in the upper half of regional starting pay. Not only that but isn't Horizon a fully owned subsidiary of Alaska? There has to be some vertical mobility in that respect.

It's only a $1.50 over minimum wage. Is it normal for a dispatcher to work more than 40 hours a week?

That's why the Fight for $15 is a damn joke. How is someone in the fast food industry going to make roughly about the same as a Dispatcher. 3 of my last 5 visits for fast food and my order was wrong. Can't read a screen, thinks they're deserving of $15.

It's already happened most places I've been to. The prices around here have gone up about a $1 a meal to cover it.

If that is their starting wage that is actually pretty good considering the starting wage for a dispatcher at most if not all of the other regionals. I know SkyWest starts less than that and so does XJT.

That's the problem with people pushing for min wage to go up. All they do by increasing min wage is make inflation worse and the cost of every day things go up while pay stays stagnant in most other entry level jobs.

Once Mickey D's employees realize they still can't afford to raise a family of 8 on an income from a job meant for high schoolers and college kids, they'll be crying for min wage to be $30/hr.

Or, you know, instead of complaining that poor people make too much money (they don't) you could instead complain that skilled positions don't make anywhere close to what they deserve. $16.51/hr for a dispatcher should not be acceptable in today's job market just as anything less than $15 should be unacceptable for an unskilled position - at least in large metro areas.

I like you.

Come on now. No need to put words in my mouth. I didn't say "Poor people make too much". But you want a great paying job so find a great paying job. They're out there... S.T.E.M jobs are where the money is. Don't stay in a stagnant low income job and expect the money to start pouring in. Why can't minimum wage be $100/hr, or $1000/hr? Sky's the limit right?

No, actually that's pretty bad considering the cost of living in Portland, where you're not going to touch a decent 1BR/1BA apartment for less than $1100. Meanwhile over in KIND, Republic is paying almost as much, and that same 1BR/1BA is half the price. Just sayin'

Where I work, I work with a ton of ex-QX. They all really enjoyed their time there. If you're looking for your first gig (or even your second) you could do a lot worse.

KIND does not equal to KPDX, nor is it greater than...

Didn't say that it did. My point was to illustrate the cost of living in PDX. That said, having lived in both places, I found them both wonderful places to live; just different.
