Hello,

My name is Dylan and i have a great passion with flying.

First off just to let you all know i am very sorry if these questions are already answered, i am currently in Bocas Del Toro, Panama on vacation.

Heres a quick bio,

17 years old
from woodland park colorado
looking for a career in Flying or Police work.

Now with all that said

I am trying to decide on what path to take. I would love to be a pilot. However i have 2 main constraints right now. Money and a relationship. I have a bit of money saved up for this commitment, around 20K i have saved since i was born, and i had a late grandmother that wanted the best for me.
How is the finacial aid at atp, any reccomendations on loans?

Also is there a way for atp to fly me down there to one of there major stations for me to check it out.

How do relationships hold up while your going through flight school, any tips cause she will freak over me being gone for 60 then 90 days.

Also where is the best place to get affordable housing after the training, Can she live with me at ATP?

And lastley any good motavation would be appricated, this is a pretty big decision i need to make here.

I would be taking private and ACPP courses.

And i graduate highschool in about 2 weeks so i would likely go in late jan early feb,

Thank you

Dylan

Not trying to be blunt, but don't plan your future around a high school relationship.

Other than that...fly down to ATP and check out the school (I doubt they'll fly you there) and talk to everyone you can...ask for the pros and the cons and maybe even check out a few other career programs as well (WhiteAir, Aviator)! There are quite a few ATP'ers on this site with tons of good info.-talk to CaptainBob.

Best of luck.

Flying to visit a location-All on you
Your girl friend-I'll take care of her, cause your gonna be gone for a while
Housing-Provided for you at certain locations

Motovation-Have you always dreamt of flying? If so than this is for you, if not this cost way to much and you dont need to waste your time and money if this is a fly by night decision. I love what I do, but make no mistake about it, it cost alot and you wont make alot of money for a long time. So, this is not get rich over night profession. I just finished my ACPP program about a month ago and I am now instructing for ATP. My expericance overall was good. Like any other school there are days that you will hate and most of the others will be great. When looking at other schools, look at what you get for the length of time that you are there, the amount of money you spend compared to the amount of time you will build, and do they post how many of thier grads are getting hired. If not it is because they are afraid too.

Forgot to add this.

ATP does not allow anyone but students in their housing. Also dont make this decsion based on your relationship. You will regret it later in life if you do. This coming from someone who knows.

True im not basing this on a relationship. can anyone give me advice on apartments there around main atp bases. are they affordable.

The main ATP locations provide housing for 90 day people and instructors. (free for students, $200/mo for instructors)

Being gone for 60, then 90 days? How about another 4-12 months if you get hired by ATP as an instructor? Then however long you're on reserve assuming you want to go to a regional...

If your looking for info on a career in law enforcment let me know. I've been in the field for quite some time and would be able to answer most questions you have. There are some great opportunities out there that combine both law enforcement and aviation don't forget!

DJ,
I think all of the ATP places in Jax are condo's now, otherwise I would say find out where the students are housed and looking into renting there. We live at The Paddock Club here in Jax. It was cheaper and closer to the airport then the ATP places and I liked it better. You can find them online.

You found a place for less than $200/Month, everything included, in JAX? Wow.
Kay is married to an ATP'r... and since they don't allow spouses/family in the apartments then I'm thinking she's effectively saying: For what it would have cost to rent an apartment at full price at one of the places that ATP rents them, she and her SO found one cheaper and closer.

Thanks for clarifying for me Bob, that's exactly what I meant.

Hopefully I'll be married to a regional FO in the next two months. Sadly that will mean an end to the cookies/brownies/ect that I occasionally drop off/sent out to the Jax office.

K

Well, while a trade in is sometimes tempting, we just got hitched this month so it seems a little preemptive to trade up so soon. And if I was going to aim for a trade in, I'd aim higher. At least a FO at a legacy... I drive a hard bargain :)

And Bob, if he's hired at XJ, I will more than gladly send in a batch of goodies. That's what we're hoping for.

We are about due for another batch aren't we?
