What does it mean.. To be hired as a CFI one would need 200 hours Dual? Does that mean 200 Hours dual From the start of ppl all the through. Does it mean dual traing? Thanks

How does one get hired when I hear most places want 200 dual. How do you get the dual? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/banghead.gif

I had about 20 hours of dual given by the time I got my first regular CFI job.

The schools that want the "Dual Given" (not received bro!) are usually larger flight schools that probably want you to have very little 'spool up' time and dive right into flight instruction.

But I wouldn't agree that most schools want 200 hours of dual given.

I'd say that most will take you with virtually no dual.

Now, if you're in an area that's saturated with CFI's (I hear the Phoenix area is bad right now...), you might be SOL....602 and MAV may be able to speak first hand about that.

Some schools will only hire "in-house" too. They train you, and then hire you. In fact, I'm trying to make that happen right now. *crosses fingers* /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/bandit.gif

Sorry if this is a dumb question, but why would a flight school require some dual given to hire you as an instructor? Don't you get dual given in the first place by instructing ? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif In other words, "to get your first instructor job, you have to have instructed before" is a paradox! I understand that it was said that at some places you don't have to have any dual given to be hired. However, why would you move from a place like that to another flight school that does require dual given to be hired? If possible, wouldn't you want to stay there until you get hired by a regional airline or some other flying job?

[to get your first instructor job, you have to have instructed before quote]

seems to me that is the way it is with almost any other job out there in the real world.
