Question baout airline/commuter duty hours

A pretty basic question I've got here. Say you're a pilot at a commuter or major, and you want to work, say 100 hours a month instead of the average 75 or 80 because you wanna make more bucks. Can you do that and is it that easy? Is 100 hours a month a heck of a lot, either?

Thanks,
S. Adam

I'm not an airline pilot so please correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe a good bit of the airlines have a cap on how many hours you can log (pay wise).

I think (and it's something I should probably start knowing as I get into interview phase here) part 121 limits a pilot to 100 hours of flight time a month. Now as far as duty hours go? That depends on how strong the pilots group is

We're limited to 120 hours in the Brasilia and 100 hours on the RJ.
We have whats called a swap board on our skywestonline.com company website. You can go there to drop/add trips as you please. Some people are cool and throw in cash for picking up the trip on top of what you would get from the company. I picked up a trip that paid 9:53 hours credit plus 100 cash. Made $200+ in 1.5 days of flying. We also have a policy of if you pick up a trip within 10 days of it needed to be flown that crew scheduling needs covered, you get 1.5 times your hourly pay. It sucks as a first year FO, but if your a 3rd or 4th yr captain on the Jet.....your pulling in $100 per hour. Picking up a local trip for the day could earn you a car payment or half your mortgage in some parts of the country.

Because most of the trips at my company are not "hard time" but rather pay on trip rig or duty, the FAR limits rarely come into play. As a result, we can get paid for quite a bit more than our regular line, and, with prudent bidding so you get bumped off trips, it is possible to double your pay or more. No work rule restrictions against it.

No not for pay - but for actual flight time yes.

I had a few months where due to duty rigs, extra flights, vacations, etc I got paid over the max.

Remember that YOU are responsible for your duty times - not the company. If you go over a limit it will hurt you the most.

For 121:

8 in 24 hrs
30 in 7 days
100 in calendar month
1000 in calendar year

for 121 subpart 119 (old scheduled 135)

8 in 24
34 in 7
120 in month
1200 in year

If you are about to go over you need to stop!
