Question about moving after OKC...

To my knowledge, you can get up to a 62 hour extension for moving after you graduate from OKC. My question is this, and forgive me for asking what may be obvious, but this is the government we're dealing with:

Is that a literal 62 hours, or 62 hours I would be working? Do I have 2 days, 14 hours of an extension, or given a 40 hour work week, a bit more than a week and two days?

Its 64 work hours. But your facility has to approve it, it is not automatic. Some facilities require you to report to the facility first before you can use the administrative leave.

It's 64 hours, that's 8 work days if you're approved.

My husband finished school at 3 on Monday and had to report to his facility at 7:00 am on Wednesday...we had to drive over 1200 miles to get back home! Be packed up an ready to go the minute you get out of class the last day! :)

You can get more time (we didn't know it but my husband had been granted a later starting date cause the rest of his class going to his facility had requested it). I know some people that got a week, but they ended up having to go through the NATCA rep to get the help in getting the time.

The time you get depends on your facility. Some are willing to give a few extra days, some are not. I think a LOT of it depends on whether you have several in your class that are supposed to arrive and start training on the same day or not.

I'd recommend chartering a private jet with your left over per diem! :laff:
Hmm, I was among the lucky few who did not get per diem, so my pay came up a few dollars short of paying the rent there.. Therefore, I accrued 4000 in credit card debt.. I could always dream tho...

uhhh i hate to show my ignorance and naivete but why didnt you get per diem???

I was only given two days to get to my facility (OAK) after the academy and it sucked! Just know that according to the new contract, you are given 64 hours to get to your facility. You are guaranteed that time. And it is paid.

Also remember that even though it is guaranteed paid time...you don't want to piss off upper management and your job is a temp job until you have been with the FAA for 13 months!!! Don't press it too hard if they aren't willing to give more time or you could be out the job as soon as you get it!

I'm not sure how it will work with the new contract, but the administrative leave can currently only be granted AFTER you report to your facility. Anything prior to that comes out of your annual leave.

Also, you may want to check with the training department to see what their schedule is. At ZME, you have a set number of days to get your maps drawn, CBIs completed, plus a few other administrative tasks completed. You don't get any extra time if you take leave in this first phase of training.
