Question about Gleim CFI Renewal

I think I may have realized a bit too late that my instructor certificate is going to expire soon. I have been quite busy and haven't been in a plane in 13 months. My certificate expires in two weeks and I think I may have screwed up on this one. I really don't want it to lapse but I am not sure if I have enough time. Has anybody completed the Gleim Course and if so, about how long does it take if I hit the books pretty hard. Thanks for your help, hopefully I am not too late.

I have done the gleim the last two renewals. It wont be fun but you will have enough time to do the course. I think there is some delay in the processing once you have finished the training. They changed the format a little each year I have done it. What I do is start really early and slowly finish on trips but I imagine that two weeks of 5 hours a day is plenty of time. Don't wait any longer though...

2 weeks of 5 hours a day to finish with Gleim? I guess you and I must have used two different Gleims as I finished the Gleim renewal in less than 6 hours. If you can find 6 hours and have a FSDO nearby, you should be good.

True! I usually complete the Gleim IIRC within a week, and that is not working on it but a few hours each day. When I finish, I print out the completion form, drive it to the FSDO (which is about a 15 minute drive) and walk out with a temporary.

Get off JC and get started!

I've done the Gleim course in a couple of days. It will be the main focus of your day, both days, and give you a headache, but it's no big deal to get it done. The biggest problem is the lead time to jump through the renewal hoops with the FAA. I forget the procedure, but after you finish the course you have a couple of options on how to renew. I think they can renew it for you, and that's the fastest, but it costs extra. Also, it takes a certain amount of time for them to do it and they warn you about that. They give you a certain number of days before you expire to get in all done. Just check it out at their website.

I agree with all the comments above. I did Gleim in Dec. on the recommendation of a friend and will probably stick with it in the future. You can do it as quickly or as in depth as you want it to be, print out certificate and take it to FSDO. Or for $25 they'll take the paperwork in for you, but that'll take a little longer due to postal transit times, etc... You can easily get it all done before the end of the month as long as you don't waste your remaining time.

Mine was going to expire last monday. I took the american flyers online course over the weekend and had the FSDO sign my temp that monday. Id say you will be fine with 2 weeks of time to complete it. I did it 2 days before mine expired. Procrastination at its finest haha

3 hours total. Open the outline on the computer and open the quiz on your phone. CTRL+F and search for key words in the question. Do you learn anything this way...? No, but it gets the job done. Print the results go to a FSDO and off you go.
