QUESTION ABOUT DUAT

I just logged in to DUAT for the first time i was'nt able to until now because my certificate number was not registered with them yet. Anyway my question is ... how the heck do you use this thing... im not filing any flight plans or anything but can i go on there to just check weather and what not. I want to learn how to use it so when i do have to use i know how.

You have to create a route or get an area forecast around an airport. You cant just pull up a metar or taf without entering some info first. The good thing is that you can save routes. I tend to make and save several routes the hit all of the airports around my area. Then I can just call up that route and get all of the current info.

Use it with the AOPA real time flight planner and it works really well.
 
Once you enter aircraft profiles and start to fly more XC's it works really well. It was accurate within about 6-7 minutes for each leg from a trip from Daytona-Phoenix. Start to play with it and look at the FAQ's and you should be able to figure it out. For local weather for a training flight I just call DAB ASOS or you can use www.aviationweather.gov It's better than DUATS for a local flight.

Not entirely accurate...you can get location data pretty easily using the "Specific Locations" link...

hey thanks mtsu and help would be appreciated..im more of a leymans terms kind of guy.. not sure if i spelled leymans correctly
 
If you go here , it'll outline the basic steps for using DTC DUAT.

If enough people are interested, maybe we could put together a tutorial with all of the most used features?? Any takers? I think that more people don't use DUAT because they quite frankly don't know what they're doing. If they would take some time to learn it, they'd realize that it can do everything a briefer can and more.

So, let me know if it helps any...

Lloyd. Mind dropping me a PM with that info when you're done? Our FBO doesn't have DUATs at the present, but we'll soon be under new management and ya never know. I WOULD like to have a grasp of it in order to be able to use it some day somewhere else.

EDIT: Ummmm - nevermind. That'll learn me not to respond until reading the entire thread.

Lloyd...you do that for class?...or do you just have alot of free time on your hands? im just starting to use duats and this will help.

I actually did that in between the time that I said I was working on it and I posted it!

I use DUAT so much that I know it pretty well!!
