Qatar invading US market?

Either Open Skys will happen or it wont. Just a snip-it of what Open Skys is:

Open skies
is an international policy concept that calls for the liberalization of the rules and regulations of the international aviation industry—especially commercial aviation—in order to create a free-market environment for the airline industry. Its primary objectives are:
to liberalize the rules for international aviation markets and minimize government intervention as it applies to passenger, all-cargo, and combination air transportation as well as scheduled and charter services

Open a US hub and offer a flow program. Piss DL/AA/UA off even more. More fuel for the fire.

I haven't seen legacy pilot groups do diddly for the FFDs. I just about choked when I got the email from ALPA asking FFD pilots to help out the legacy carriers by writing our congress members.

They've held open houses for FFD carriers as well as online seminars to help FFD pilots get a leg up. Our very own @Seggy was fairly involved as well if I'm not mistaken. It may not be much, yet, but it's a start. Certainly more than diddly. As far as the e-mails go, I don't necessarily agree with everything ALPA does but protecting US jobs is certainly one I'm on board with.

Don't fret. I haven't seen our unions do much for us either. If you're at a regional hang on and you'll have a job worth saving. Previous poster is right. You'd be better off working for a legacy than a foreign carrier.

Mainline pilots allowed the FFD carriers to spawn and grow, and got raked over the coals for it by low time pilots. Now, mainline pilots are trying to put the genie back in the bottle, and are getting raked over the coals by low time pilots for it.

If you went to them, they were a joke. It seemed more like ALPA was trying to save the regional s from voting them out then trying to get the FFD airline pilots a job. Not to knock Skywest pilots or any Non Union Pilots, but ALPA Should be saying we must hire from Union pilots first. I know of no other Union job where you can get hired by a top tier company with out being Union first.

The biggest fight against that is pilots already at majors who want to get their kids/135 friends/squadron buddies hired and don't want them to lose seniority.

No, you gave up flying you deemed unworthy when you went to all jet fleets.

Hmmmm....from what I recall, on the anonymous critiques, not one person said it was a 'joke' or that 'we had this to have folks not vote ALPA out'.

We went over the genesis of this project at the event. The ALPA FFDC reached out to United and Delta to see if help can be given, working with the chair at the time, this concept was developed. We also made it crystal clear attending an open house wasn't the Willy Wonka Golden Ticket to an interview. We followed it up this summer with additional events to help folks to get noticed.

I agree completely here.

Doesn't mean jack. It's like Wimpy saying I'll gladly pay you Tuesday for a hamburger today. Maybe it will come to pass, maybe it won't. Give me a seniority number and we'll talk. Until then tell me what's in it for me now, in the next 12 years of flying I have left.

You're not looking hard enough.

One FFD went from wholly-owned to strictly third party contractor, and the legacy pilots with a say in things assisted in re-negotiating (read as: "retaining") a flow-through for pilots that were already on property at the newly-FFD carrier.

That counts as doing more than diddly for FFDs in my book.
