Q400 growth

I can't wait til next week to see ur half jap asss in ewr! U better plan on going and getting some good sushi. We got an awesome group in our class.... 5 hours credit a day!!

What's the diff between 3.O.2 and 3.T.1? One says 4hrs for ground training and the other say's 5 hrs for short term training..

Mr. Congressman I refer you to you're own comments.

Anyway, whatever. Your record here of trying to help your fellow pilot more than outweighs any single crass remark. Honestly I've got nothing against ASA, they've always had a remarkable contract, great numbers, and are the apple of Delta's eye. I'm glad as much flying goes to them. I hope you guys raise the bar in your own way during these contract talks as well, makes it easier during our next round of talks.

So you are saying you guys aren't cheap labor? I don't think he meant it as an insult, but was just calling a spade a spade. Things have improved greatly with the new contract, but even the best compensated regional is still "cheap labor" otherwise we would all be at mainline.

I just shot you an email as well, but seeing that you posted the same question here, I'll copy for everybody to see.

3.O.2. specifies the PAY CREDIT associated with ground training (which is 4 hours). 3.T.1. specifies the SCHEDULE CREDIT for a ground training event. Schedule Credit is used ONLY in conjunction with PBS when building lines. It will have no bearing on the CJC schedules until we are switched over to PBS bidding.

Horizon's MX is really good, but the Q400 is still behind the CRJ in dispatch reliability...and probably always will be. The Q400 has so many can pop up and screw up your day. It SHOULD have been the clean sheet design that it was intended to be, and maybe it wouldn't have as many problems.

I think we're looking at having a spare in PDX and in SEA before too much longer. We've had the Q4 since it was new and it still hasn't gotten to where we need it MX wise. So unless Mesaba/Colgan has some magic dust to sprinkle on it, good luck!

The Q400 training at Horizon is top notch...they really throw the book at you and get you ready for just about everything you'll see on the line.

Are you guys still doing ref speed and Vse for approach bugs? Or did you pick up the Vref and Vref ICE way of doing things?

Not doing this yet.....but it is in the pipeline to go live shortly.

Just heard a strong rumor from a reliable source (can not divulge) that there is a sizable growth plan moving forward for the Q400. Shed’s light on why MGMT wanted this deal done so badly.

45 Q’s with 15 going to DEN for the Calnited and 30 in MSP for Delta. The 30 will have a 2 class configuration.

Hang on everyone!!

Anyone good at photoshop? ;)

I fly on an airplane now with a jumpseat that is used frequently, so I actually have a chance to ask mainline guys about flying an RJ or even a Q. My unofficial survey has it at 1/4-1/5 of the mainline guys outwardly expressing a desire to fly something like a -900. That's while riding on the jumpseat and trying to be polite.

Deal for you Emu: when the majority of mainline pilots want our flying back, and I'm only talking 50.1%, I'll be more than happy to acquiesce to your reasoning. Until then, I'm not going to pretend mainline wants anything to do with our 70 seaters.

I used to be a big believer in this mentality, but I can't convince them and I can't stuff my job into their pocket. Nearly as far as I can tell, mainline guys don't think 70seaters should fly at all, us or them. I can't even begin to imagine what they think of the 50seaters that pay them majority of regional pilots mortgages.

Back to the topic of the thread? What did your source say about a timeline? I for one have always been saying that this Delta doesnt want props thing is not true, they just dont want saabs in my opinion. I expect to see tons of q400's at delta in the future. I think they are going to replace a lot of our crj 200's faster than we realize which is why it is so important we are all going to be on one list.
I think we should also all pay attention to what is going on at jetblue right now. They are voting to farm out 10% of their flying to a regional airline. The plane of choice would probably be the 175 but the 900 is not out of the question. I think it would be in jetblues and all of our bests interest if they held the line on that one and kept all flying in house. We already have a JFK base though and I hope they are not in talks with them for the jet blue pilots sake, especially the ones that just left here to go there.

I would imagine the timeline looks something like this.

Next week:

Scene opens in an office in Memphis
"Delta is ready to go on the Q400's!" Phil
"When do they want us up and running, we don't want the same problems we had with Continental all over again." Doug S.
"It was all the pilots fault!" George Casey
"Doesn't matter, we'll blame the pilots later, Delta wants us going on this and ready to fly in a month." Phil
"A month?!? We can't staff up in a month!" Doug S.
"Blame the pilots!" Casey
"Works for me!" Phil
"Me too!" Doug
"Irene, get me that memo writing guy, tell him that we have 30 Q's coming on next month, we expect all pilots awarded the airplane to be studying, taking tests, and in class all while balancing their current flying!"
"God damn pilots!" Casey
"God damn pilots!" Doug
"God damn pilots!" Phil

If this were true, i'm kinda scared... Any "new" pilot to the plane will be in the PMP for a year/ require 500 PIC to act as a check airman.

I think Colgan has signed up just about everybody that "wants" to be one... so training to staff will be a crazy time. Much like it is now, with guys waiting 4+weeks for IOE

I couldn't agree more. That, in combination with the source are the only reasons I bit off on this rumot. I think the Q400 product, especially now that we seem to have many of the MX bugaboo's figured out, is a really good product and at a very reasonable rate. We know how to train them, fly them, land them smoothly and maintain them now all at a cost = to or less than 50 seat jets. I think that eventually the q400 will dominate in the 300 nm range.

No timeline was mentioned as I am sure, an announcement, is tied to an ISL since it is going to cause massive vacancies. Let's face it, CJC has not been a large money maker for corp thus far. Acquiring CJC was/is about the future of the company and that future is almost here.

If Corp is smart they will plac these aircraft at mesaba now because they can handle them. Unless they are waiting for sli. This plane really is going to be a game changer for sure.

And that was not a knock on the colgan pilots just saying mesaba is the only one of us not extremely short staffed right now

Hehe. You may want to preface all that with, "Since we now have +170 FO's in LGA, we can probably find some pilots for them". :)

right, which leads me to believe these furloughs were called back for a reason and we might hear some sort of announcement sooner than later.

Oh almost certainly the company will announce something soon. I expected more of a June timeframe. Long story short, the union was WAYYYY too assured that there was new equipment coming on soon and that we need to look toward the future of this company not to the past. We don't do the "optimism for our health" dance anymore. I'm reasonably sure that it's more genuine compared to the Delta ilk and their staffing model of, "We are going to tell you to staff up immediately for these 15 airframes we are giving you, and 2 months later flip you the bird while we transfer 2/3's of the frames to ASA and that was the plan the whole time. Keep those guys around just a little longer, we like you and more good things are coming! ... Now furlough!" Pinnacle actually has a desire to make money with their pilot group, rather that sabotaging an entire pilot group because we've got the wholly owned stink next to our name.

From United.com:

IAD-PVD, SYR, ALB, BTV, ORF starting June 2011 on the Q400.

So where are we reducing from?
