Pulled it off! Time for IOE

Tell them to kiss your shiny black ass if they don't like it!

Different things happen for different people at different times for different reasons.

My man, you don't know how tempting that has been!!

The worse part is, for the most part, while I often try to offer empathy and gestures of good luck, I am consistently wished ill will and bad tidings!

I will say things along the line of, "I hope things start moving for you guys real soon so you can get an upgrade, or maybe just get some more numbers under you so you'll have a better bid"

I'll get things like, "I can't wait for you new hires to get displaced out of base so you can see what it is like to sit reserve for a year or too!"

I'm just like "WOW, really!"

I guess you can't always make friends in a hostile environment, so pretty soon I'll just stop trying. I really feel bad for guys that have been on RSV for a long time, but I am getting sick of trying to justify my employment to total strangers that have no interest in me other then to bitch me out.

The guys like that, just remind them that they're senior and they make more. Other than that, just say you got lucky.

In 12 mos, you can tell them that their mom didn't complain about you having a line.

Well they need to get over themselves.

I've sat less than two weeks of RSV my entire airline career and if there was a co-worker that "wished that I would" so I can get a taste of what he went through, he's going to get a visit from the phantom.

I know a guy who's been a captain at Southernjets since his third year at the company and he's on 20-plus right now. Do you know how childish I would feel saying, "I wish you were FO for 13 years like me so you could UNNAHSTAAAAAAAAND".

Please. Keep your head up, do your job and to hell with them.

Keep in mind it is not you they are mad at, it is the company they are mad at and just taking it out on you guys.

The company F-ed them over by not letting them bid the CRJ or for some guys MIA EMJ. (Per the contract they should have been able to bid it.) So now guys who have been kick around to 3-4 bases and have been on RSV for 3-4 years are seeing new hires get flying that they should be holding.

Can you really say if you where one of the those guys you wouldn't be a little upset?

That's really petty of them to wish that on you, but I'd just keep the whole line thing to yourself. People take this stuff really seriously. Don't even get into it and you won't have any issues. Of course you did nothing wrong; you're just taking an opportunity that was presented to you. Luck and timing is everything in this business, for good and bad. :)

I will say this though: About 3 weeks before my furlough I flew with one of those guys who was hired at the right time and upgraded in just under 2 years. I had no ill will about that, but he kept going on (without me having asked) about his quick upgrade, how he holds a line in base, and that he'll be primed for [major of choice] when the industry starts moving again. Absolutely no regard to the fact that the guy sitting next to him was out on his ass in less than a month. Lemme tell ya, that was a "checklists only" 2-day.

So, like I said, don't bring it up and you won't even have to worry about it. But if it does come up, don't apologize about it. You're just at the right place at the right time. :)

Nice. I might have to use that somewhere down the line!

The worse part about the whole situation, at least for me, is the manor in which I am being engaged personally. Below my gruff exterior, and the 6’3’’ 215lbs of blackness, I am actually a pretty sensitive guy and it hurts a bit when people I hardly know are wishing me the worse because of something I have no control over. In all actuality I have done nothing to them at all, other than to be hired at the same carrier.

I don’t wish bad fortune on people regardless of how upset I may get with them, and certainly not because of a given situation that might involve them. However this hasn’t stopped some of the guys there from taking it right to the heart.
Now I am not going to turn into a puss and break down in tears, what is going to probably wind up happening is response will soon be met with anger rather than empathy.

You can only try to shake hands with someone while they kick you in the nuts so many times before you just say “That’s right bitch, I have a line. Enjoy your RSV suck!”
Then I become one of the people like Gonzo described in one of the post above, and the cycle gets perpetuated.

I would be A LOT upset!
100%

But from what you said above, if it is not me that the guys are mad at then they need to not be mad at me, as rhetorical as that may sound.
Be upset with the company, I’ll be behind you. But they are not cursing the company, they are regularly cursing us, and it’s getting old. I am a grown man and I am in control of my emotional facilities. Taking things out on other people, to me, is just immature and does them discredit.

That would be a great strategy, but unfortunately at LGA as an CRJ FO they don’t need to sharp shoot us. There are 51 CRJ F/Os on property, 2/3 have been hired in the last year. All but the bottom 2 or 3 have lines. We don’t even have to mention our situation, they know we are F/Os and new, the rest just falls into place and they go in guns blazing.

I would love not to get into it, but then you’ll get someone that starts in on you, unprovoked, just trying to get a reaction out of you.

I don’t react well when I’m boxed in.

Sad thing is some of the guys are CAs on both the CRJ and EMJ (I also don't like the way I have seen CA talk to the new hire FOs). That is why you couldn't paid to bid LGA CRJ.
K to tell you the truth you can keep NFC. I will take bidding 278 in ORD over bidding 9 (Might be 6) in LGA.

This stuff ain't cool. Seriously uncool. I'm gonna do something about it.

Check your phone man.

Just emotions running high. Lot of guys that feel like they have been slighted, and I can understand. But I am not going to let it get under my skin. It would have just been nice to get into a new job and start making friends, rather then having people resent me arbitrarily.

Oh well, just part of the job I guess.

Phone checked. We'll talk in the days ahead I'm sure. In the meantime I'm going to discretely probe the issue.

OK man, looking forward to it

If you do emphasis on discrete please, I am not out to make waves. Regardless of what is going on there I can take it, I don't wish to start any new issues.

Thanks

Don't sweat it man. I'm an information ninja. It's what I do. ;)

Never the less, this hasn't stopped some of the guys is base from basically bitching me out for having the audacity to actually hold a line, so I keep it very Loooooooooooooooooow profile and tend not to mention it at all.

Lots of anger from the EMB side of the house, whether they are holding a line or not, they are pissed off.

Hey man, give those whiny bitches a copy of MikeDs rules to live by, specifically the first three, which there's a reason they're above number 4:

1. There are no guarantees.
2. Life isn't fair.
3. Timing is everything
4. Seniority has its privileges

Remember that, live by it, and you'll never be surprised.

If only people stopped worrying what everyone else was getting, and concentrated on their own gig.

What the hell man......you going to take this crap?

I expect you to open a can of whoopass........let that rotary wing aviator inside you come out and show these SJS bitches what's what...

No doubt man, no doubt.

Shut your trap, do your job, stop bitching about what someone else has.

Where do we find such people?

My advice to you is to wear your epaulets upside down to let those ERJ kids know you fly a real airplane. I keed, I keed.

Seriously though, I don't understand why the EMB people would be mad. Can't they just bid over to the CRJ if it's so great? Sorry if someone already asked that.
