Pulled it off! Time for IOE

Just have a good set of pithy one-liners for when you jam it on. Examples:

"Found it!"
"Take that, Chicago!"
"Eh, it's good for it!"

Etc. :) Seriously, don't be bothered by a somewhat firm landing in the touchdown zone. Do be bothered by a smooth landing outside the touchdown zone. Quit going for grease!

This could be a thread in its own right. "Things to say when your landing isn't so graceful..."

"Spoilers: DEPLOYED!"
"Gear strut stress test: Complete!"

"Trying to scare the flight attendant again?"
:rotfl:

You guys crack me up!! :rotfl:

I think I'll save that kind of response for after IOE, or even better yet after probation. I wouldn't like to have a Capt response like "IOE : Canceled, Meeting with chief pilot : Scheduled"

So how'd it go today?

Well, yesterday went like this…

So to say that it didn’t go at all.

Today, however, went perfectly! I mean PERFECT!!

I couldn’t have landed the aircraft much better. Even my IOE Capt, who usually never has a kind word to say about a maneuver, said upon touchdown (and I quote)

“My god, you managed to pull one out of you ass! Very nice job!!”

It really was a case of mind over matter, as well as following a lot of advice from you guys, so thanks a lot everyone (Big thanks to DVT Pilot too).

As it turns out, it is actually more work to fly the plane badly to a floater landing then it is just to plunk it down. I resisted any and all urges to pitch at 50’ all the way down to 10’. In fact, I never pitched up at all! The reduction of thrust to idle gives you all the pitch up required for a smooth landing.

I got off the AP Waaaaay earlier then I was before, which gave me lots of time to get the feel for the approach. At 100’ I committed to airspeed, no more thrust adjustments at that point, whatever I had I kept. Idle at 10’ and hold the centerline, the plane basically landed itself.

It is almost like a switch just turned on. I went from total basket case to First Officer. One more day of IOE and it’s a wrap!!

Thanks for the advice to all that gave it. Gotta’ love JC

IOE = DONE!!!!!

Thanks for the support everyone!

(Now I get to sit RSV for Christmas!! :banghead:)

Congrats, mang. Welcome to the suck.

Cheer up, though. I reported for IOE on Christmas Day, 2007. Spent the night in a hotel room by myself. Started a trip the next morning. As holidays go, it'll be the first of many. I'm a line holder with three years on you and I start a trip Christmas Day. Your work schedule will be ever changing and life will not always sync up neatly with the 9-5 M-F type world. Don't sweat it. When the rest of the world schleps its way through the daily grind with rush hour traffic and rat-hitting-the-feeder-bar pace, you'll be tripping the light fantastic down the Road Less Traveled. Using CASS to send yourself FEDEX to someplace warm and exotic? Sure! NYC for the day to catch a show? Why not. You're in the VIP lounge of the "I work unusual hours" club. Drink it up.

I don't share Charlie's enthusiasm.

Unlike Charlie, I know your true colors, and thus I understand that you are one of the worst creatures of all; a hack.

Understand that other lowlifes like MikeD, Waco, and probably Charlie are met with the same description from me, so while you may be scum, at least you've got good looking company.

:)

Congrats man, enjoy work!

Road less traveled...road less traveled...I'm going to start repeating that to myself to help me sleep at night. ;)

That's messed up John!!:o

Might have to straighten you out a bit when I see you next. Speaking of which, I have (2) 20 hour layovers coming up in DTW in about 2 weeks, we hanging out?

Congrats! Enjoy reserve... :)

I did, all 8 days of it.

Line holder for Jan! :rawk:

(Although there are many that deserve it more then more, and I feel for them)

Amazing how things change. Just as recent as 2007/2008, I was a short-call reservist for 12 months before getting furloughed. :insane:

Crazy, isn't it?

Like I said, there are guys that deserve it a lot more then me, but it is not a call I made. It is above my paygrade.

Just wish more guys understood that.

Most of us do, just like most of you guys know it is wrong that you guys are getting lines. But there is always going to be the A-holes everywhere. A few weeks ago on my way home (In the jumpseat) I had a 5/10 new hire tell how mad he was because he could not hold mid-week trips. He could not understand why saying something like that pissed me off. (3 years of RSV for me, some of the LGA and JFK guys are looking at 3-4 of RSV)

Back when we were putting new hires on the ER in New York, I had one bitch to me about how he was in trouble with his girlfriend was mad because he wasn't getting weekends off and how he wish he never left (former) because he'd have a better schedule.

Meanwhile, we were headed to Rome for a four day trip in spring.

Needless to say, it was open season on him all trip.

The funny thing is I took LGA in expectation, and with total preparation, of RSV for awhile.

I picked the base since New York is where I grew up and my mom is still there (No Crashpad).

I started fixing up an old '84 Regal my Mom has in the garage to use as an airport car.

Basically I was all set up for a sit on RSV, only to find out that, as of today, there are only 51 CRJ F/Os in base, and more lines then F/Os!!

Never the less, this hasn't stopped some of the guys is base from basically bitching me out for having the audacity to actually hold a line, so I keep it very Loooooooooooooooooow profile and tend not to mention it at all.

Lots of anger from the EMB side of the house, whether they are holding a line or not, they are pissed off.

Maybe! I get done with training around January 15th, when are you in town?

Tell them to kiss your shiny black ass if they don't like it!

Different things happen for different people at different times for different reasons.
