hey guys and girls. I have aroughly 25 hours completed so far, soloed in 4.5 and am wanting to finish it all up when i get back from my current location of Iraq. I have the Gleim Pilot Handbook, Gleim FAA Written Study Guide, Gleim Flight MAnuevers and PTS and the Gleim FAR/AIM, I am just wonderin if there is any other material I should purchase in oreder to complete my private license?? And if I could get all of the training completed if I have 2-4 weeks, thats gonna be the amount of my recon time after I get back to AR. So just looking for some advice........

Hey! Welcome to JC! I have been in the sandbox before as well, and know it can suck.

It sounds like your current study plan is right on. If you do all that studying, you will be an instructor's dream.

As for additonal stuff.. the FAA manuals, the Airplane Flying Handbook, and the Pilot's Handbook of Aeronautical Knowledge, are available for free online. You might also want to check out AC 00-6A and AC 00-45E, which deal with weather, and are also both free online.

Good luck, and come home safely.

Gleim is good.
FAR/AIM is good.
Get an AFD Airport Facility Directory for the airports
A Sectional map with the plotter and E6B Computer.
AFH Airmans Flying Handbook and PHAK Pilot's Handbook of Aeronautical Knowledge are good for referencing with the Gleim and getting a bit more understanding.

As a matter of fact I always bring the AFD with me when I fly in case I have to divert, even if I'm only going to the local practice areas.

ASA's oral exam guide is probably the best $10 you will spend.

Also, you can look in the PTS that you already have, and use the references for each section in there to study for each section. The good books that the FAA publishes can be downloaded for free, as already mentioned. The Pilot's Handbook of Aero. Know. will have a lot of information, but a lot of it will be over your head.

I used allot the info that was suggested above. I went over board with what I needed it seems but being a spunge is a good thing and I enjoyed much of my learning. I suggest RideReay by dauntless. Check it out. PM me if you want it.;)

:yeahthat: Along with all the books already mentioned....but I've used the ASA Oral Exam guide to prep for every checkride and my oral exams have been a breeze. Just be careful on the systems chapter, as the aircraft they discuss may not be make and model you're using for your checkride. Just use the POH for that.
