Is there a way to setup a forum like the lav but limit who can enter it (like the mid forum)? What cost to set something like that up?

I might be interested in something for a few JC members.

Thanks

A serious weight loss one. Not like years past, but where encouragement and understanding is expected. We tried the joking point system but this is more like towards OA. Only those invited could get in. Tried of hearing the comments just eat less, exercise, etc. I'm fighting a battle I need to win.

I'm sure there could be others and maybe even a revenue stream for JC. As not aviation it would be a sub forum of the Lav, which would also keep it out of the search engines.

Oh, mid was to be mod. Thanks autocorrect

I'd be pretty surprised if people very heartlessly encroached on a serious weight-loss thread that could be made a sticky.

Problem is, comments like eating better or less and exercising more are legitimate comments and legit things to do. If anyone doesn't want to hear those comments which are applicable and basic things that need to be done before anything else, then how could the thread be taken serious in any way? Comments don't need to be sarcastic, they can (and should) be constructive.

It'd be like someone wanting to be a pilot really bad and wanting to start a thread on it, but doesn't want to be told or to hear comments that he would need to study and what he should do to prepare for flights.

Like comments about drinking and posting on FB? I do eat well, exercise, and fight my body with thyroid meds. Good one day, up 7-10 pounds then next. It's a balanced mix for me. A challenge for sure but it's hard when skinny people just say eat less exercise more. I do tell them wait until they are over 40 and report back.

That's the thing. Different bodies will work differently. Sure, eat less. Sure, exercise more. But eat less of what and more of what? Exercise how and focus on what type? That's what people could be contributing, and should.

Thyroid sounds like it isn't something you have a ton of control with either - I mean, if you are exercising AND eating right and can still balloon then what more can you really do? As for "skinny people" - I'll tell you it works BOTH ways man - I get told by everyone "Eat more! You need to fatten up" and there's nothing in the world I can do to make that happen. I'm 6' and around 135-140. Not relevant, but I do understand your frustration - just on the other end. I get all these fatties telling me to eat! :D

Understand you both. Think I might open a thread and see what happens. I wouldn't wish this in anyone (either end if it) and struggle hoping my boy got then jeans from mom. So far so good for him.

You ever start a thread? I've been looking but missed it if you have. I thought of this because I got zapped really good today. I keep losing weight. Down to 125. So, 6 foot, 125lbs. Anyway, I was told today "Hey, if they ever remake Schindler's List you are a lock for one of the camp extras!" - so, trust me - it goes both ways! :D

That's impressive. Meth?

I've got no comments about a Private forum, but for anyone with weight issues I'd suggest two things: the documentary "Fat, Sick, and Nearly Dead," and the book "Wheat Belly."

Exercise more is not the thing to do if you are morbidity overweight. In fact you really don't want to do any real exercise. You just end up hurting yourself and in the long run end up gaining weight.

If you don't mind me asking, and you can reply in the other thread if you want, but how did you do it? You know me and most of my issues (I think). It's been a hard road and I'm back at the doc again tomorrow... Thanks!

I opened a thread in the Lav: http://forums.jetcareers.com/threads/2013-heath-challenge.163333/#post-2039983

So you are a juicer then?
You've met me, so you can probably guess that weight has never been my problem. That said, I've got some other issues creeping up that, officially, the medical literature says there's not much I can do about. Fundamentally they're auto-immune conditions that I intend to tackle with a juicing regimen plus a paleo / no wheat/gluten diet and go from there. Fortunately when I upgrade here I'll be "home" every day.

I think Dr. Forred went "Paleo" as well. Might be good to axe him some questions.

Like how I went all ghetto vernacular there?

Wow, you must be black or something..... :)

Honestly I'd love for the good doctor to do my next medical as I've got a ton of paperwork I'll need to submit to the FAA ahead of time, and the Doc I did my last medical with here in DEN doesn't strike me as the most thorough kinda guy.

That said my schedule here doesn't really allow for me to get to PHX and back very easily.
