Im supposed to do one next flight. Any advice on remembering the steps etc?

nkoenig,
Hey man don't worry about doing stalls, their a little different at first, but after demonstrating a few you will be fine. Its a normal reaction to be a little scared at first, just relax and it will be no big deal.

About remembering the steps, just sit in a chair and reherse all the procedures. Act like you are flying the plane.

Good luck

Stalls are nothing to be afraid of...assuming you're at a safe altitude, which you will be with your CFI.

You need to have a healthy respect for them, however.

As far as practicing them, remember that nothing there is no need to jam the yoke to the firewall.

Just put in full power and relax....relax...the back pressure on the yoke, and have fun.

I used to hate stalls, but after doing a few I'm 100% confident about doing and recovering from them.

Later.

Whenever the stall breaks...just hold your hands up, just like a roller coaster, and scream WOOOOWEEEEE!

When I was first taught to do power-off stalls, my instructor did one with me holding onto the controls to get a feel for what to do, we then did one together, and then he had me do like six in a row . . .

. . . do six or so in a row and within a half hour-hour they won't bother you a bit. Power-on stalls were a different sensation for me because you have the power and your racing toward the heavens it seems, and just seemed to be a little scarier.

... and keep your eyes outside! There's nothing in the instruments to help you. Just point the nose at a cloud and use rudder to keep it there.

If you have flight sim go over the flow in each manuver, take it a step further and buy the CH yoke and pedals.

If you don't already have that or don't have the dough, get a poster of the 172 model you are training in (be carefull the R/S models cockpits vary) Stare at the poster with your PTS book in hand and pretend you are going through the manuvers.

Stop by your FBO or what have you and ask if you can get the keys to an un-scheduled aircraft so you can sweat it out in the 100+ degree cockpit and practice the flows. If they want to charge you for this find a new FBO

Memorizing all the PTS manuvers is overwhelming at first but most start the same so its really just getting down the recovery.

Power on stalls are by far the best!!!

I love to do power off stall. To me, that is an easy maneuver to do. However, power on stall is what I was afraid the most till...my old instructor left for freight job. My new instructor got mad and show me - "What will happen if you don't put enough rudder to maintain your nose at a point of sky." a month after that, I passed my PPL check ride

Now what scares me is spins....but I'm just starting work on my instrument rating so practicing spins for my CFI rating is far away...thank god!!!

But remember to stomp hard on the left rudder first, while pulling the yoke all the way back.

She got scared and grabbed me....

Definately different from the bright-eyed, bushy-tailed young-ins we were at Riddle oh so long ago.
