Two years is a long time. Things change. People change. What I can't figure out is how a person, knowing or wanting to be a pilot, would smoke dope--knowing that it is potentially a "deal breaker". Do people actually think things through anymore?

I know many of you will kring at this, but here it goes. Lie, if you can pass a drug test, meaning, you have smoked dope in the last few years and it has been longer then lets say a few months and you plan on very doing it again, why confess. Two years for weed, come on. We all go through our early 20's, late teen years. I might have been lucky, but who knows, In college I played sports, I passed my NCAA required drug tests. But I might have smoked some cheeba over the years. Have not done it since the late 90's. But I was told by the older players, only ansewer questions that you can be caught in a lie with truthfully and the rest be vague. And yes a few of my fellow teammates are in jail, college football what do you expect.
You don't think you fly around with people like that already?
Heck yeah...that's the kind of attitude I want in the people who fly my family around!

I probably do, but ignorance is bliss.
And the captains I fly with are much more likely to be taking viagra than anything else.
You miss the point, there are people that have smoked pot and people that are smoking pot. I meant to say, why throw yourselves into a s***storm if you don't need to. I can not believe that no one has ever told a lie. I know of a few guys that have failed drug tests, that is wrong. Why would you not want me to fly your family, I know of a few recovering alcoholics that fly for the majors, they seem to be okay, I have over 3000 accident free hours, an ATP and 3 type ratings. So what if I smoked some weed like 10 years ago. But i do agree don't lie on an appilcation, but look at the question at ansewer it.

As stated, why bother admitting to it if they cannot prove otherwise??? Go ahead and claim that's not a professional attitude, but you're not hurting anyone.
Truthfully, I'd have NO problem with a pilot using weed while say on furlough. The herb is pretty benign compared to other drugs that people use, legally or otherwise.
Flame away.
Have any of you read the part on the 8500-7 about " all the above is true" if you lie or "not say anything", you can go to jail or pay a fine if it you get caught!
And if you decide to "omit" the said information keep your enemies close and your ex's closer!!![]()
Wow...I'm disappointed I didn't get such a full and open response when I asked a question about pot last week....
...just awkward...thinly veiled, accusatory questions...

Not the sharpest knife in the drawer apparently. My new student went to an AME today for a medical.
They asked, "Have you smoked pot in the last two years." He said "yes."
Right----ok---uh huh---frankly don't have much life experience.
More along my line of thinking--suck it up and follow the rules
