What is the most effective method for treating it? I currently use Flonase. I am getting tired of having to remove it all in the morning:insane:

The other option you could use is Singulair which is a leukotriene inhibitor. It works very well for allergies. If you use it, take a letter to your AME from your doc stating that it is for allergic rhinitis and that you have no signs of asthma.

Ok, thanks. I think I will stick with Flonase for now, it works, but only when I remember to take it:insane: .

Oh, and the benefit of living in a small town is that the only AME in town is also my family doctor:)

The only one that is any good is Nasalcrom - it is a non-steroidal, non-Afrin type medication that is not addicting and you can fly with it if your symptoms are controlled.

The meds like Afrin can become habit forming. and should be used for no more than 5 days.

You can use the OTC Claritin also.

Is it a wise idea to drink a glass of water after taking Flonase? Somebody said I could get a yeast infection if I dont.

I have not seen any evidence for this. It is true for the orally inhaled steroid asthma inhalers. Sure wouldn't hurt & most people don't drink enough water.

active culture yogurt!! that's what you need to keep from getting a yeast infection

i had to go back to my doc on friday (sinus/broncial just wasn't going away) and she gave me a 21 day supply of some mega drug that the pharmacist said "if this doesn't cure it, you have a superbug" along with a years supply of flonase (generic).. and she also told me to drink a glass of water after taking the flonase but it wasn't for yeast infections - i actually can't remember why she said that....

anyways, the active culture yogurt is what gives you new good bacteria when your taking antibiotics that kill ALL (good and bad) bacteria...if you don't supplement with new bacteria, you could get diarrehea or yeast infections - yuck!!

apparently, my pharamist was seriously concerned because of the prescription that doug brought in, he freaked doug out thinking i was really *really* sick....who knows, i may be.. but i don't feel THAT sick...it just won't go away
