PN-1 Navigation Plotter.....

I am planning my initial cross country flight, and was fooling around with the navigation plotter that came with my flight bag. When I was working with my instructor during ground school, we used a plotter that was different and had a straight foreward way of finding accurate headings between destinations. I got home and found that my Jeppesen PN-1 is used differently. I did a little research and found that you need to place center hole over a meridian line while making the measurement, but this still doesnt make any sense....For example, I am looking at a Victor Airway that has a heading of 058deg, but the plotter would be telling me to fly roughly 110 /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif

If anyone could give me any insight for how to use this thing I would appreciate it!!!!

Thanks in advance,
Adam

Since I don't have a way to demonstrate to you, I'll do my best here.

What you need to do first is put the bottom edge of the plotter on your course line between your two points (duh /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif). It seems to me like you have a good idea of what to do next, but you're having a hard time applying it:

There will be lines of longitude (top to bottom) crossing that course line at some point. Move your plotter over (while keeping the bottom edge of your plotter on the course line) so that the little center hole lays perfectly over that line of longitude. Follow the line of longitude down to where it intersects the semi-circular section of the plotter. The true course will be shown by the first set of numbers on the semi-circular section, where the line of longitude meets the plotter.

Let us know if you have any more questions, or need clarification on anything!

Thanks for the answer RiddlePilot!!! Nice job explaining, although I think I'm getting a new plotter anyways! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/spin2.gif
