Please let this be true

It always perplexed me why they never came up with a replacement when they stopped production, in the USA I have to imagine there's still about 700 in service
 
There really aren't a lot left. The 757 has to be one of the greatest airliners ever made. There is certainly nothing stopping Boeing from slapping some newer engine on the thing and firing up the production line again!
 
I would like to see a 787-type single aisle model that went from large 737 size up to 757-300 size. Don't know if it will happen any time soon though...that could potentially be a replacement for the 737 as well.

Like a single isle 787-8 actually. Think that length would be perfect. Off topic slightly, but I wonder how the 788 is to dispatch.

Pretty good. FL410 is something you'll see 9 times out of 10 no matter the weight. Great plane for payload and range. Its like a 767 with the range of a 777 that burns fuel like a 757. It's great. Still has its minor quirks though, but it is improving with time.
