plasma donation

is there anything against this as far as flying goes? how about 'unsafe' for flying? I would hate to donate blood and pass out while flying due to pressure or something (doubtful but I don't know)

I'm thinking about donating plasma like twice a week to help pay for my gas while I go to the flight school. can make like 50-60 bux a week I heard.

I'll be doing this on regular basis too probably.

also my other concern is, how safe is this? after all, your blood is passing through some machine and getting pumped back into you, sounds kind of scary.

Thanks!

Someone please refresh me; for the life of me I can't remember what the rule is about donating blood. My father used to donate platelets, as often as the blood bank allowed, without affecting his flying or his medical.

He said that process was pretty long and uncomfortable. When the blood is out of your body it cools a little and when it goes back in you get really cold from the inside out. Somehow that makes you have to piss but you're stuck until the process is finished which takes a good while. You've also got a needle in each arm so you're kind of crippled. So if you had an itch on your nose you had to get a nurse's attention to scratch it for you.

He'd do that as often as they'd let him and the blood bank doesn't even pay out here, they only give you some juice and a rice-crispy treat. I'll never live up to that altruistic bastard.

A minimum of 24 hours is reasonable. ATC requires 12 hours and the military requires 72 hours. You have to judge based on your symptoms. If you stand up suddenly and are light headed, don't fly. If you are going to do aerobatics, don't fly for 72 hours.

I wanna do this so I can get some gas money, but the process kind of creeps me out... ahhh, love flying to get my ratings and working and still not having enough money lol

If you fly, you will NEVER have enough money. There are always more ratings, more places to go and more toys to buy:laff:

LOL! A sperm donor? Yeah, he'll get an anonymous phone call from someone claiming to be his son or daughter in 18 years, that's grand....lol... Here's a novel idea: become a waiter at a happening place, it's a quick way to turn a buck.
