Pinnacle moving to MSP

Welp, it has been unofficial for awhile but is now officially official news.

Another sad day for the sad, sad city of Memphis. According to the article it sounds like they may end up sharing a building with Compass Airlines in the space formerly occupied by Regional Elite.

Interesting times in the industry.
 
While I'm not a big Minnesota fan, I'd much rather live in MSP than in MEM. But I'm sure it's more expensive also...and those winters! Such is life in the airline industry though.

Yeah, but the Memphis summer is no joke either. And yeah, MSP is marginally more expensive but exponentially better than MEM... if it weren't so flat it would be a great place to make a life.
 
FYI - if your looking for a DX position in MSP, Pinnacle will be hiring like crazy soon. Most of the L-9E DX are not going to go to MSP. 9E Management was paying L-XJ DX housing allowances in MEM and now they won't have to.

I know you may not have the answers but does anyone know roughly when they will start hiring? I was planning on quitting my current job in may and going to ifod or Sheffield and getting my dispatch. My goal was to stay as close to MN as possible and this news seems like a blessing for me.

Anyone know how soon they plan on hiring an what would your advice be to me? Should I quit my job and get into a dispatch school ASAP or should I wait until may (when pinnacle plans to have the move done) and how many jobs are going to open up from this? And will they hire someone fresh out of school so soon after a move when they will be presumably short on knowledgable people...? Also how tough are the interviews for pinnacle, is it tough to get through the interview or not bad?
I appreciate anyone's advice, I was planning on waiting until may to quit my current job just so that I could pay cash for the school and have enough wiggle room to support myself for a year in case I couldn't find a job.

Pinnacle has always hired right out of school as they have a reputation for being one of the worst places to work DX in the industry - search around on here for some threads about them - low pay, heavy workload and they just signed a concessionary contract which means less pay and higher workload due to the bankruptcy. As far as openings who knows? I know several people who work for them who are thrilled they will be moving to MSP and on top of that the pilot union just signed a new contract which paves the way for the airline to drastically reduce the number of aircraft they operate so hiring may not be on the horizon anyway. Its entirely possible that part of the reason for the move is that it will be an easy way to cut ties with a significant portion of the employee group. And don't forget that Delta now wholly owns them and the last airline Delta purchased with the promise of expanded flying and bigger aircraft just closed its doors a few months ago.

All that to say; be very careful about quitting your job with the idea that getting on with 9E will be easy. Why not keep working while you get your DX license at Academy College in MSP?

Are you referring to my signature line? Because I am unsure what printing out NOTAMs has to do with moving to Minnesota. At any rate, we don't print them locally, but the crews all get a full printout when they pick up their release/weather packages.

I have lived in both places.. I lived in MSP for 2 and 1/2 yrs been in MEM for 18 yrs...Yes as a city MSP beats MEM. But its all what you make it. My closest friends are in MEM its cheaper living I make a 6 figure salary at FX..Thats what makes it worth it to me to live here. But as a city I hate it here. Have to weigh the good with the bad..
 
Yeah sorry for the random question I was meaning to ask you that for a while. Yeah the good ole Wx packet that YYZ can never seem to print out. We are always having to fax it to them.

I go to MEM quite a bit and much enjoy it! Can't beat the food there, especially BBQ Shop and the Commissary but there is a down side with the crime in MEM.

Nope! Not that I don't like Gtown I really wanted to stay out of Shelby County too much drama going on with the merging of the Memphis and Shelby County school systems. I prefer to live in MS even though I have to pay state income taxes there as opposed to TN. I live in Hernando. Nice little town and an easy commute up I55 to the airport.
