Holy crap, look at all those 9s. What up with those? MikeD?

Cool pics.

A ton of NWAs fleet is here. Their 747-200s are getting the axe, their DC-10s are almost finished getting chopped up, and the -9s are stored here, all in the new paintjob. Sad to see.

After seeing how many -9's come into DTW in a given day, and seeing how many are stored out in Pinal, it really gives you a sense of how many NWA actually had. NWA loved/loves them and they are defitely a major workhorse of their fleet.

I was hoping to see DAL pull them back into service.

The facility is also a large storage area for the classic-747s, a good number of them there. But slowly being parted out and junked due to little demand for them. The portion of the ramp pictured is in front of the main D-check hangar, and the one of the Dreamliners is pictured.

What are the plans for the 9s if you know? Are they up for sale or waiting for the axe?

As far as I know they're stored overages. Don't know if they've gone back to a leasing firm, etc; as many of the planes here are.

The -9's? Oh, they've morphed into CRJ-900's and EMB-175's. Pretty magical actually.

Funny you mention, but there are no RJ-type planes stored at Pinal. At IGM, there are a bunch of turboprop regional planes.....J31/41s, some BAe ATPs, a number of 1900C/Ds, and a few others. Goodyear doesn't have any RJ either. Only ones I've seen are at TUS at the Bombardier facility. They appear stored but I can't tell, and seem to have Skywest colors.

As of recently, there should be a bunch of EMB-135s in IGM that look very similar to my avatar (in fact, my avatar is one of them)....at least I think that's where they're stored.

You're probably right.....since my last first-hand visuals are about 6 weeks old of IGM. I go there next week, so I can probably confirm.

BTW, I love IGM. And so does Doug, though he'll never admit it! :D

I do. With all my heart. That, plus, they've got a Whataburger there so how can you go wrong?

Remember the Russian Twins in PRC? "Don't tell any VON VEE VORK here"

LOL! Yes.

IGM has Whataburger and In 'N Out now too.

I still prefer the Whataburger. In N Out says "California" Whataburger (at least to me) says small town Arizona.

Don't know which models, though I suspect early models. A few 757s have been getting scrapped on the north side of the field along with the 74s.

Yea, by "A" model I meant early models. Capt Caucasin (sp) a few weeks ago said DL ins't keeping some of NW's older 75's because they're complete crap.

I'd suspect those might be them..

The same day that pic was taken, I watched a 747 de-fuel at TUS and then make its final hop over to Pinal for storage.

Probably the strangest radio call I've ever heard followed when TUS departure said "Heavy XXX, squawk VFR, Frequency changed approved." Just not the sort of thing you hear every day!

Most of the NWA 757's can't be retrofitted with winglets. So Delta has started parking them in the desert.
