Has anyone ordered from them? I just ordered two shirts - I keep going through shirts... Ink stains from pens, Dash 8 hydraulic fluid dripping all over me (like a normal Dash 8 haha), oil splatter, etc. I am gonna try them out - someone else in my crashpad recommended them to me. At $25 they cost more than the $16 Van Heusen Aviators that I normally buy, but they seem to be of better quality.
 
So you're just going to get a better quality shirt dirty the same way as the cheaper shirt?

Now, I understand the concept of buying quality clothing, but I'm not going to drop $25 on a work shirt that's bound to get dirty at some point. I'd spend more money on dry cleaning and properly maintaining the cheaper shirt for a longer life. That's like me wearing my tailored Brooks Brothers dress shirts to change the oil on my Acura. No, I'm going to wear some free shirts the US taxpayer gave me 6 years ago.

Buy the higher quality when you upgrade and you're not doing walk arounds ever - or as frequently as you were as an FO. But, you've made the purchase already.

Just tell us how they are. I also have heard highly of their shirts and will most likely make the investment when the time is appropriate.

I don't say this much but surreal has a very valid point.

And you wonder why you can't afford your crashpad.
 
That's where I buy all of my shirts from. The quality is much better, and the tapered fit looks a heck of a lot better as well. Definitely worth the extra money in my opinion.

Or befriend a local tailor and purchase the $16 (or less) shirts and have them taken in for free. Well, free as in buying the guy a couple cases of choice liquor near Christmas.

Price of couple of cases of choice liquor >> total yearly savings by buying $18 shirt rather than $25 shirt.

The pilot house shirts are a lot better than the Van Heusens.

I have a number of articles of clothing that are tailored by the same individual. Not just pilot shirts.

But, you know, if that's the way you want to think about it - that's fine. The rest of my statement to the OP stands.

Nice try, but totally unrelated.

The Van Heusen shirts didn't last nearly as long as the M&H uniform shirts from the company. Ripped out buttons that can't be sewn back because of the holes, fraying fabric, threads coming apart, etc. I want a higher quality shirt that will last longer so that I don't have to buy the shirts as often. I will spend $9 more for a shirt if it will last me longer and save me money in the long run.

Work shirts are a necessity. I now only have two of them that are actually wearable. I need a total of 4 shirts for a hot 95 degree cockpit in the summer on a 4-day trip.

As I have stated above, I want a shirt that will last me longer and save me money in the long run (even though it costs slightly more). I don't care if it gets oil stains on it (I will still wear it). I just don't want to wear a shirt whose buttons won't close and threads falling apart.

I've owned two since I started here Nov '07. I've had to sew buttons on the epaulets twice, but that was because the shoulder straps snapped 'em off. They're still white and I've never been told that I smell because I wear my shirts for two days on each trip.

On a 4-day in the winter I take 2 shirts. But in the summer 1 a day is a necessity. I think if you are in a 95 degree cockpit with a broken APU pushing back in PHL on a humid day you'd understand why I need a clean shirt everyday. My shirts are nasty at the end of a 6 leg day in a pre-A/C-mod Dash 8 that doesn't cool the cockpit down much. Stinky :D

I totally understand what you're saying...but the fact is that it's probably about the same overall cost to get a quality fitted shirt as it is to get a cheaper one tailored. If I wear the cheap VH's, it looks like I'm wearing a bag. I probably should look into getting some tailored, but I guess I'm too lazy.
 
Great shirts. We wore Van Heusen shirts at Amflight and they were horrible. Once I got to Express I started wearing PilotShirts.com shirts and they stood up incredibly well.
 
You guys that don't/didn't like the van heusen shirts, what "style" were they. I have been wearing the commander series for a long time and thought they hold up well. If there is a better shirt I am all for it.
 
I know that the Van Heusen long sleeve shirts are not offered in a tapered variant, so yes, a lot of people look like they're wearing a white garbage bag with black things on their shoulders. But the short sleeve are tapered and are able to kinda take away that big bag look so long as you purchased the correct size.

Ok, this will probably gross y'all out but I fly the 1900D down in PHX. I wear one shirt for the whole 5 day, I try and wash it but our 9 hour overnights in POS motel's make it tough. I soak it in bleach before I wash it. I have been doing this for 5 months, same shirt. It's a VH. Looks fine. Never heard a complaint. Maybe once my company starts paying for the uniform they make us wear, I'll give a . They get what they pay for...

Don't use bleach, it will turn shirts yellow. That's what happened to mine, when I thought I was whitening them. Oops. Try Oxiclean instead, and use a detergent rollerball to apply detergent directly to the collars.

Anyway I tried the VH Commander and Aviator shirts after using M&H for a few years. The Commander is actually a pretty good shirt, nice thick fabric, etc. but both of my VH shirts are starting to unravel after just a few washes. The quality in the sewing isn't there. I don't like the Aviator series, it's a little "cheap" feeling.

I didn't think either the aviators or commanders were tapered in SS. I agree with Wheelsup that the commander is a good shirt, but in the right collar size for me the waist is *huge*. I suspect the larger collar sizes have little to no taper to them...I wish I could get one my collar size with a better fit.

Has anyone tried A Cut Above shirts?
 
I have a closet full of Pilotshirts.com shirts. And a few VH (from the new joint).

Some of my pilotshirts.com shirts are pushing 10 years old and still look fine compared to the new ones I got at the new joint.
