pilots and company

why do pilots for commercial airlines not say the company they work for? i know this is a stupid question but it seems weird that every post i read or any website i see it says so and so flies for a large domestic carrier. why dont they say yea joe jones flies 757's for united? just a question thanks to all that respond.

A couple reasons.

One good reason is that airlines are extraordinarily paranoid about the internet. If they know "John Franklin, pilot for Junkt Airways" is talking about safety infractions or crazy things they've done in the cockpit, they're afraid that it'll get scooped by the media. A little anonymity goes a long way on the internet in terms of being able to express your views and opinions.

Secondly, everyone and his uncle knows who I work for if they've followed the website for any amount of time. Over the past few months, I've been bullied and threatened by a subsidiary of my employer because I don't trumpet support of their program and they wanted to quell any and all dissent. See the 'update' post at the top of General Topics for more information.

Anybody in the industry can look at my screenname and know what two airlines I worked for and where I was based! 7 little letters says all that :)

Usually we leave enough clues that someone who wants to can figure out who we work/have worked for. But we usually don't come out exclaiming "I work for XYZ!" because we don't feel it's necessary. Even I, as an airline wife of a certain airline, don't fully speak my mind all the time out of fear of some sort of retribution. We all know management lurks here.

I will speak my mind about AMR though. Because after all, what are they going to do, fire me ;)

I'm personally done telling people where I work, what I do, etc. etc. I've taken enough crap from people that don't have a clue about what goes on in my life critiquing my professional life.

I was curious and just decided too look something up, and let me tell you, you are crazy! How the heck can you get a B.S. in Philos? I'm having a hard enough time as it is in my Informal logic class.

There's a podcast that I listen to from an airline pilot.
He always says: "I'm a pilot for a major US airline"
OOOHHH Secrecy...
But when you listen to the portions from the flight deck, you can clearly hear them respond to ATC's "Delta ___, contact departure."

San Diego is beautiful! I've got family down here, which makes life easier. But I'm still die hard Detroit fan :)

I studied philosophy beacuse it was challanging for me. Some people get it right away, some don't. I was getting all A's in my aviation courses, and didn't think it was for me. I actually failed my first philosophy course, then finally figured the stuff out and majored in it (kind of on accident, though). After I failed my first course my first thought was, "Huh, well, it was real hard...but lots of fun!" and I took 17 credit hours of philosophy my next semester. Kind of a trial by fire.
