The Captain is primarily responsible for the overall conduct and coordination of the flight and assigned personnel. This must be accomplished with overall mission safety as the dominant concern. The duties and responsibilities of the Captain include but are not limited to:
  • Has full control, authority and responsibility in the operations of the aircraft, without limitation;
  • Responsible for the safety of the crewmembers, cargo, passengers and aircraft;
  • In-flight Security Coordinator;Supervise and direct all crewmembers in their duties pertaining to the operation of a flight and may delegate other duties to a crewmember even though it might not be that person’s specific duty;
  • Exercise sound flight principals, procedures and safe practices during all flight operations;
  • Promptly report incidents or accidents to the Chief Pilot and Director of Operations;
  • Have a thorough and continuing working knowledge of the contents of the company manuals, operations specifications, aircraft flight manual, FAA regulations and company policies and procedures;
  • Effectively support flight operations while ensuring a maximum level of safety;
  • Coordinates with members to ensure timely aircraft and flight operations and assist with member needs;
  • Conforms to normal, abnormal and emergency operations;
  • Perform/assists in aeronautical decision-making and exercises sound judgment;
  • Strives to maintain a teamwork environment while on duty;
  • Performs/assists in post-flight duties;
  • Completes all necessary paperwork;
  • Assigns First Officer duties when applicable and mentors First Officer;
  • Responsible for completing First Officer evaluations;
  • In addition to complying with all applicable FARs concerning alcohol and drugs, shall not engage in flight duties if any alcoholic beverages have been consumed within 12 hours prior to takeoff;
  • Responsible for assuring that the required visual pre-takeoff ice contamination check is performed by a qualified crewmember within five minutes prior to beginning takeoff any time conditions are such that frost, ice, or snow may reasonably be expected to adhere to the airplane;
  • Check or delegate aircraft pre-flights to ensure that engines, controls, instruments, and other systems are functioning properly, contact control towers for clearances and instructions using radio equipment, start engines, operate controls, and pilot airplanes to transport members or freight according to flight plans. In addition, the Captain will monitor engine operation, fuel consumption, functioning of aircraft, altitudes, plane weight, weather, and wind conditions before and during flight. Captains will order changes in fuel, load, routes, or schedules and plan flights according to government and company regulations to ensure flight safety.
  • Must pass all flight evaluations whether scheduled or not by FAA, Chairman, Chief Pilot, Director of Operations or Manager of Flight Training/Check Pilot. Employment can be terminated after a total of three (3) consecutive failures of any kind of evaluation by anyof the above reviewers and after going before a review board by the above Directors and Manager.
  • Multi-task, respect/maintain confidentiality, be service oriented, be trustworthy/ethical, and be sensitive/respectful of diverse populations/cultures.
  • Interface with TAS members as time is available, including baggage stowage and retrieval, on-board questions and any other member requests. The Captain maintains an attitude of constant professionalism and provides exceptional customer service to all TAS members, suppliers, and employees while observing and practicing all safety policies and procedures.
