Hi,
My name is Jerome and I am soon to start college. I was wondering about the whole college thing. Should I
1. Go to college first, then go to flight school and become a pilot that way?
2. Go to flight school, work for a regional airline, while getting a degree online?
or
3. Go to flight school first while building flight time while in college?

I would love to hear your thoughts and opinions. My thing is getting in young so that I can build time and seniority. THNAKS

1. Go to college in something you enjoy other than aviation.
2. Get a job with that degree and pay for your flight training as you go.

I went to college first and then went to a flight school to get my ratings, and I have never regretted my decision

Things are so slow now and the industry is up in the air, I would say go to college and get your private pilots license. Then after you graduate evaluate where the industry and your interests are.

I think accelerated flight training makes a pilot sharper and current. Leaving to many gaps in your training means more money spent to relearn everything. I would look at getting your PPL first then aim for a College Aviation program or ATP's self paced program. Kill two birds with one stone.

I'm glad to hear that going to college is in each of these scenarios.....I went to college and earned a degree outside of aviation first and then went to an accelerated flight training program. I think that's a good combo.

Accelerated flight training=cheaper? Accelerated flight training=sharper and current?

I disagree BIG TIME. I am thinking of all the accelerated flight schools that you can go from zero to CFI hero in 1 year.

That's your opinion but think about it would, you be a better pilot if you flew once per month or 5 days per week? Not only that but you save money too.

I got my degree first and then went to flight school. To do it again I would've gotten my flight ratings prior to going to school and CFI'd part time during college to keep proficient and also to make money to pay for college.

Think about it would you learn how to swim if someone suddenly threw you in a pool and said swim? It's too much and can be harmful even. I'd say the average is 2-3 hours of flying a week should be max for a student. 5 days per week is overkill for sure and not enough time to apply what has been understood if it has even gotten that far. This is the first I have ever heard someone suggest flying 5 days a week is helpful.

Save money too?:insane: What am I in, a time warp or something? Put some reasoning behind your first thought here besides you save money.

Go to college first then see what this industry looks like. A lot can change in 4-5 years.
College for sure. I say go for the flight training while in college if thats what you feel your destine to do. Don't let the ups and downs of the industry deter you if you want it that bad.

I'm so happy to hear someone say this!

I had been considering this for some time but, I didn't know if it was a realistic way to go or if I was just being an overzealous aviation student. :laff:
