PHX DP\'s

Anyone ever notice this occurance?

When PHX is using there westerly runways 26,25L & 25R.

As soon as the planes are airborne and the gear is safely stowed the planes always take a 5,10 degree or more sharp left turn to clear the active.

Then normally fly that new heading before turning back on course.

I see this occur everyday when westerly opperations are in effect.

My first thought was that they were trying to get as much traffic out as quick as possible and with parallel ruways it makes sepration eaiser.

But whenever rwys. 8, 7L,7R are in use I never see them do this.

It looks like they maintain runway heading until (what I think) they come to an intersection from PXR-IWA vortacs at which point they turn on course and heading.

As stated I see this occur almost daily but the other day when on the way home from work at bout 2pm was on I-10 North bound in front of Sky Harbor.

And this huge friggin NWA 757-300 takes off from what looks like 25R and performs the normal low level left hand turn and flys direct to south mountain.

Before turning back north then turning east and on course.

Very cool site to witness but does anyone know or suspect why?

Yeap, its for noise. It happens on the BXK1 (Buckeye1), DSERT1, MAXXO1, MOBIE1, and the TFD1 (Stanfield 1). On all of these DP's they make a left turn to a 240 heading, hold it until 9 DME and then are cleared on course.

Thanks one and all for your replies.

So what bout on the flip side when easterly opps are in effect and traffic is departing from rwys. 8,7R,7L.

Are there no noise abbatement procedures for those departures?

Cause like I said they seem to continue to fly rwy. heading until what I think they intersect PXR & IWA and turn on course.

Is there anyway online I can get a copy of PHX DP's?

When PHX is on a east flow, they hold runway heading until 4 DME and then cleared on course.

The fixes that are used to clear the planes on course are as follows: BXK, GBN, TFD, ZEPER, FORPE, BAYTA, CHOPR (sometimes), and THOMM. These fixes are used in both east and west operations. To learn more about the Procedures @ PHX, I reccomend opening this link in Real Player:
