Phase Check for airplanes

Can you overfly a phase check? I'm looking through the fars and can't find anything??

Are you referring to a 141 phase check, stage check, or whatever else you want to call it? If so the answer is yes. The flight time that is required in the syllabus is simply the MINIMUM. You wait till you are ready for it. So, if it takes you 60 hours to get a private pilot certificate at a 141 school, then it is going to take you 60 hours. Just like at a 61 school.

Bottom line. Most of the time your instructor will not send you for a phase check until you are ready.

He is probably talking about a progressive maintenance program. Each program is individually approved by the FAA, so you would have to look at that approval. I am guessing no.

Thanks yeah i will look at the maintenance logs. Im a CFII and MEI but im looking and the times are due but I can't seem to find if we can overfly because I thought I heard you could fly it by 10 percent but I'm not sure.

If you're talking about progressive MX phase checks the answer is generally no in the 135 world. It all depends on the company policies as outlined and approved by the FAA. You can enter phase early but not late.

Ah, duh. Didn't even think about that. I hear phase checks and I automatically think end of stage evaluations in a 141 school.

For the record and to save some face, i think my answer is still correct. Ok so it's not correct for the question, however ;)

Some companies can overfly by 10%.

It depends on how it is setup. Each one is unique. Our phase inspections on our Cessnas are done in phases 1,2, and 3. Phase 1 is a 50 hour which you can overfly provided you comply with any ADs, phase 2 is the 100 hour which you cannot overfly unless you are enroute to the destination where the inspection will be completed. We then alternate between the two until it is time for an annual. The phase 3 then counts as an annual. Like I said it will vary but this is an example, the 100 hour inspections cannot be overflown.

91.409(d)(2)(ii) should answer your question.

The applicant must provide an inspection schedule specifying the intervals in hours or days when routine and detailed inspections will be performed and including instructions for exceeding an inspection interval by not more than 10 hours while en route and for changing an inspection interval because of service experience.
