Per Diem

What is the standard per diem policies under 135. I'm used to the 60 domestic, 90 North America, 150 elsewhere. Is that the standard? Also what about phone stipend?

It depends on the operation. We give our guys/gals a company credit card and mobile phone. Per diem's are impractical for us.

So meals are paid on the company card? What are the limitations on that?

Usually no alcohol, itemized receipts. The new place is $80 daily (limit not a goal). Last place was a daily allowance for all overnight expenses. (Meals, hotel, rental car, etc...)

Part 91 trips, I have a company card that I put all of my meals on. We've had days where we spend very little (tired and don't want to do much) and we've had days where just dinner is pushing $200 (Nassau). I have never been questioned about my expenses.

Part 135, I get government rate per diem paid by the calendar day. I put the zip code of the airport in to the GSA website and whatever it says is what I get. Noon departure one day getting back at noon the next. That's 2 days of per diem.

If you are not getting the government rate, part of the difference is tax deductible. Make sure you track that.

Phone paid and company card with a "don't be stupid" limit. (like no 150 dollar dinners 3 nights in a row, but don't settle for the olive garden either). P91
