Peninsula Airways / PenAir?

Position And Hold My Beer
...Just a general thread, wondering if anyone from the forum has any experience with this little Alaskan airline from up north. When they picked up Colgan's routes out of Boston, I had dealings with their PR department in the past, but now I'm actually involved in the industry and trying to figure out what would be a good next step.

One of my teachers in my dispatch course is (if I remember correctly) the chief dispatcher there...But that's as far as my experience goes with PenAir. What are you trying to find out?

Honestly, I'm just curious what they're like to work for I guess.

I interviewed with them last Fall. Seemed like nice people, pretty decent place to start. Alaska is a pretty sweet place (IMO), and despite what I had heard, Anchorage is not a wildly expensive place to live, at least from what I found out when pondering moving there for a job. PM me if you have questions about the interview. I didn't work there but maybe I can offer a few bits of info.

I have a friend that dispatches for PenAir and she enjoys it plus living in Alaska is pretty sweet! I enjoy it.

While Anchorage is cheaper than most of the other "cities" around here, Anchorage--and Alaska--are still expensive to live compared to other places. Obviously it depends on what your pay is and how efficient you are at budgeting. It's rare to find a one bedroom for under $900 a month (they are out there, though), and pretty hard to find cheap studios too. You could live out of Anchorage (Wasilla and Palmer are cheaper, but are about an hour or so from the airport--and it's worse when you're going into or out of there when everyone else is, and even more worse in winter. Utilities obviously go up in winter, I've seen a $60 a month bill in summer and $300+ in the winter, depends on how good you are at saving heat, if you have a fireplace or wood stove in the place, etc. Gas is over $4.10 a gallon right now.

I'm not saying that to turn people away, just speaking from experience living up here for 18 or so years. Summer is very beautiful, and winter can be if you like cold and snow (I don't, but I deal with it). You can drive (or walk depending on where your place is) and pretty much be in the mountains or forests...probably why many people go missing every year and aren't found...

Just wondering...does anybody have an idea as to what PenAir pays, and what their schedule is like?
IIRC, something like 15.75/hr or so, 4/3 schedule or something similar. Might have changed though, as it's been over a year since I received that info. I imagine it's still the same.
