Pen Air Caravan Pilots

Following next summer I will return to Alaska looking for my first flying job. Fresh out of school, I will have my commercial, instrument, multi-engine, and just around 250 hours. I understand PenAir offers spots flying right seat in the C208, requiring only commercial with instrument (and the will to tolerate life in King Salmon). Is there anyone currently working for Pen Air familiar with the job specs?
I have gathered the following information from various dated sources
$10/hr pay
4hrs a day guaranteed
Housing is provided
Work 2 weeks on 2 off

Can anyone verify this information is still current? Thanks for the help.

I believe it is.

I have a student that just finished his commercial and got a job. I would get a CFI and build more experience before taking the job though.

That is current. That is the info I was given when I interviewed last month.

That almost makes me wanna move to Alaska, almost

Is the 4hrs pretty close to what pilots end up flying, or do they typically get a few more hours than what is guaranteed? I also heard that pilots flying right seat in the 208 typically ramp part-time for Pen Air to make up for the lousy pay. Do you know if this too is correct?

It sounds like 4 hours is a typical day. You might fly more during the summer though. I dont know about working the ramp. That sounds difficult with the 2 on/2 off schedule.

Ok. Is it correct that there is a separate chief pilot for 135 ops? Duffy Jensen is just 121?

Jon Eichler is the 135 CP there.

Honestly, having been there and done that I'd highly recommend either getting an aerial survey gig (the 172 operators) over the right seat Caravan deal.

One thing to remember here is that if you do this, (provided you aren't a troublemaker since they are non-union), you can end up moving up fairly quickly and get the experience that could lead you to a much better job...

Exactly- to get hired by a regional that can take me from no hours to the potential of Saab capt, all under the same company seems pretty appealing to me. Of course once I have my ATP, I will have the experience other airlines will require if I do feel the need to move.

Eh, in the 6 months I was there I flew about 100 hours. YMMV.

Also, the time would be worth very little outside PenAir, so if you do leave early for whatever reason you'll have to sit in an interview somewhere else and explain SIC time where you *might* swap legs and the PIC is allowed to bump you.
