Scooter Trash!!!
Hey Guy's,
I have my eye on the BlackBerry 8700C. I don't know much about these things, or what to look for. I definatly want to run the "Airline Pilots Daily Logbook" on it. My goal is not to spend more than 200 bucks (or so). I just want something inexpensive that will get the job done.
Any Ideas?

Ken

I'm pretty sure the APDL won't work on any blackberry products (ref: their website).

APDL's website said:
Airline Pilot's Daily Aviation Logbook for Pocket PC/Windows Mobile is available for unrestricted use during a 90-day evaluation period. Synchronization to Logbook Pro is restricted until registered. Airline Pilot's Daily Aviation Logbook is compatible with Pocket PC, Pocket PC 2002, Windows Mobile 2003, Windows Mobile 2003 Second Edition, and Windows Mobile 5 (Windows Mobile 5 SmartPhone Edition not supported.)

* If running Pocket PC or Pocket PC 2002; download Microsoft's "Compact Framework Service Pack SP3" or to resolve problems associated with Crew, Hotel, and Leg Notes for HP Hx4700 and Hx4705. You can download the patch by clicking here.

** 640x480 and 320x240 resolution supported. Square 240x240 displays have not been tested. Landscape orientation is not supported.

****SmartPhones without screen interaction not supported (i.e. Blackberry / Motorola Q)

APDL Schedule Importer

Yeah, that would have been quite the bummer to find that out too late. I didn't even see that note. Thanks.

What do you think about the Treo 650?

Im not a "Pro Pilot" jut yet, but I have been running an E6b program, and the PDA version of Log Book Pro, on my Treo 700P and I couldnt be happier.

I've had two blackberrys and one treo 650, and hands down I'll take the blackberry.

It just works, and much better I may add. Kind of like a Mac.

What do you want to do with the phone? That is the deciding factor.

BB is better at email. Only thing I liked about the Treo better, chat log for texting.

My main use will be for the "APDL". I believe it must have a touchscreen feature. Thats why I can't use the blackberry.
The T-650 is looking better and better :)

I got the treo 750 and it works really well with APDL. It can be pricey if you aren't a new customer though, but if you go on ebay you can usually find a pretty good deal.

Does the Centro have a touch screen? If not, no APDL on that one. iPhone won't run it b/c there's no Mac version.

I've got a Treo 650, and I can't believe I went so long without it. You can pick up an unlocked one fairly cheaply on eBay. That's what I did. It had "moderate wear," but I needed a magnifying glass to find it.....

Yup, a Centro still has the touch screen, runs Palm OS and is basicly a cheaped out version of the Treo.

I just received a LG voyager by Verizon for christmas.it has a touchscreen and is suprisingly entertaining. It seems far more advanced than my BB 8703.I mainly still use the BB,however the LG is faster for web surfing.

That Voyager is a surprisingly capable device. However, not much 3rd party app development for it.

Just wait. There's gonna be a slew of apps for the iPhone before too long.

Anybody find a good one with wifi? I dont want to buy a data package

There's a bunch that have wifi right now, but they're the bulkier devices...Blackberry Curve, iPhone, just about any Windows Mobile 6 device, Treos. T-mobile's Shadow is the exception - quite slim and light. However, wifi KILLS battery life. Badly. That's one of the things that's nice about Verizon these days - the EV-DO data network they run is quite tolerable, and in my experience, much better than EDGE or even the "3G" network that AT&T claims to have deployed. I bought my G/F an LG Venus for Christmas and I was pretty impressed with it.
