Past BRACs for Guard / Reserves

I was talking with someone earlier who mentioned Guard units switching airframes. Does anyone know of any squadrons that have gone from fighters to transport, transport to fighters, transport to tankers, etc.? I'm sure there are at least a few, but couldn't find them anywhere. Just curious to see what's happened in the last 10-20 years.

Many have. Off the top of my head, the more recent ones:

RF-4 Phantom units: Reno, NV to C-130s; Riverside, CA to KC-135 to UAVs; Jackson, Miss to C-141s to C-17s; Lincoln, NB to KC-135s, Louisville, KY to C-130s; Birmingham, AL to KC-135s.

F-16 units: Albuquerque, NM to ?; Sioux City, IA to KC-135; Puerto Rico to C-130s; Niagara Falls, NY to KC-135s; Fargo, ND to UAVs; Houston, TX to UAVs; Syracuse, NY to UAVs, Selfridge, MI to C-130s, and probably a couple more I'm missing.

A-10: Milwaukee, WI to KC-135s

O-2 Skymaster: Stewart, NY to C-5 Galaxy.

....more as I remember them.

there are quite a few (8ish?) squadrons switching from XX to C-27J's, I believe there are only two squadrons, Mansfield Ohio, and Martin State MD, that operate that "type" a/c currently.

What... a couple of hours to make the transition?

LOL....yeah that one was definitely an odd one. Ontario, CA (now the March ARB unit) had O-2s, then went to F-4C/E, then RF-4C, then KC-135, now UAVs.

Interesting transition for Stewart though.....smallest to biggest.

Reminds me too, McConnell, KS.....B-1B to KC-135.

Actually, Jackson went from C-130 to C-141 to C-17. Meridian went RF-4 to KC-135.

Meridian is losing their tankers and is becoming the U-28 FTU I believe. They also fly a single C-26.

The McConnell Tanker Guard unit used to fly Bones also.

I think you're right about the Meridian unit's new mission.....IIRC, MC-12 training there too. Lots of Guard units have a support airlift plane such as a C-26 or C-12. Used to have cooler ones like a C-130 or a C-131.

Mentioned 3 posts up, Mr. SA.

:D

You should have seen that guy on Monday.

Day 1 of UPT... this guy has dark circles under his eyes, pounding coffee. "DUDE, I got f----- hammered his weekend!!"

That clown....:D

He ever tell you we worked together, before being in the reserve helo unit?

He's one dirty SOB.........:D

Fargo went from 16s to preds like miked said, but also to C-21s...and meridian is just MC-12s when they ditch the -135 AFAIK

Mansfield hasnt switched over yet. They still have their 130s but are losing 2 every quarter now and will have the new cargo aircraft starting next year at some point. My uncle is a major with them.

I know CT had A-10s, then went to the C-21s as a bridge airplane and they've had the C-27 hanging over their heads for a while.

Thanks for the info guys.
