Passengers

For you professional pilots out there, (mainly airline), how often do you see a passenger board a plane that you know? Maybe someone from high school, or just an old friend? Does this ever happen?

I think it would be cool to board an aircraft and have the captain or first officer be someone I know..

I always thought about that, I always thought about if there were someone in the back that I knew and deserved some payback for something about the possibilities of that.

It hasn't happened to me yet outside of planning those types of trips ie. parents or friends coming on my trips. I've seen it happen to captains and usually they just end up buying drinks for the person.

I was in Oklahoma City and I see a familiar face in the passenger line. I asked the FA for the passenger list, and sure enough, there was Larry! He and I flew at the same air taxi in Alaska years ago. I had him come up and say hi. "I'm a fed now," he says! He was on his way back to Alaska after a week of FAA meetings.

Speaking of seeing people that you once knew...

I was working in Austin and missed my flight, so they routed me through DFW to catch my flight home. I'm sitting on American, in the window seat, minding my own business while the rest of the passengers boarded. Suddenly, an organizer dropped into the aisle seat next to me and I looked up to see who dropped it and it was a chick that I went to high school with. We hadn't seen each other in 15 (yikes, that many since high school??!?!) years and it was such a trip. It turned out that she was heading to SNA as well and lives in Dallas.

Weird.....
