Pass rate

I have a question about pass rates. I know for the gold seal, it's all about initial pass rate. But for general purposes, does the FAA care more about total pass rates, including rechecks?
My first sign-off passed, my second failed the initial and passed the recheck, and now my third just failed his initial. Unfortunately the 2 failures were on the ground and they were finish up programs. The examiner debriefed with me and told me how I can't assume anything was covered with a finish up student.
So now I'm curious at the pass rate and when I have to start worrying about a 709 ride.
Thanks for the help

Use the PTS and cover all areas thoroughly. Don't sign someone off until YOU are sure they can pass.
If the same applicant or several applicants repeatedly fail the same check ride or same tasks, look for a 709 notice in the mail but if you use the two failures to learn from and better prepare them you'll be ok.

My guess is that the school and the FSDO will have a regular check of records and prefer a nudge approach from the chief rather than cert action, I'd say the latter is for accidents unless something is seriously amiss. That said a busy school with regular DPEs will find a way to informally guide improvements. They want to see you do well too.

I was no 8 (I passed) for one of my instructors in Phoenix, so no pressure there then. I did my own ground part 61 but don't find many as studious. Definitely make the last pre checkride flight a simulation of the ride, unfortunately some finish ups can be for a reason, best to start from scratch in the key areas and build back up.

I hear schools talk about pass rates but never individual instructors. Along with records inspections, for signoffs and the TSA, I'd love to learn more about how fresh CFIs are mentored and the roles the FSDOs and DPEs play.

I've learnt a lot from www.azdpeag.org - maybe some networking at safety meetings helps break the ice too.
