Random question:

Is every part 135 on-demand operator that flies more than one 12,500 lbs aircraft, required to conduct fingerprinted background checks on all flight deck crews?

No. I think that's a CASS thing... and if it's not CASS, I wonder when(if) that becomes a requirement.

TSA requires "certain" aircraft operators to participate in a Twelve-Five Standard Security Program (TFSSP) which requires a criminal background check, which almost always requires fingerprints.

as far as the "certain" part goes I dont know how it is determined which operators have to do this, But Myself and everyone I know that flys part 135 charter has a TFSSP

Ya even though we aren't CASS, we have a TFSSP program and need fingerprinting. I think its every 7 years or something like that.

That's what I'm trying to figure out. What exactly dictates if an operator is actually required to participate in that program?

You are right. If a company operates an aircraft with an MTOW of 12,500 or above it has to comply with the TFSSP.

Interesting. I have friends that fly G3's and Hawkers at different part 135 companies and they were never required to be fingerprinted.

According to what I read, including the link posted in this thread, it says all operators above 12,500 lbs are subject to the program.

I'm confused why some operators that are described in the programs details are not required to participate?

We have like 5 types on our certificate that are over 12.5 and we don't do fingerprinting.

Are you sure they aren't flying for part 91 companies? I was under the impression that everyone under 135 had to comply with the TFSSP. On another note... I had a hell of a time getting mine done. They say you can go to any local police department, but all the ones in my area were less than helpful. Ended up getting old school ink prints done at a police station, and even that was tough as they had never heard of the TFSSP and wanted nothing to do with it.

Lol, I'm quite sure.

I was referring to the post before yours, but I guess I'm stumped as to what specifies if an operator has to comply, or not.

I've always understood this as part of the 12,500 and up security BS.... if you operate anything over 12,500 135, you're required to comply. How others are getting away without, who knows.

Possibly, it may be up to the POI to say an operator has to have a TFSSP. I looked thru all my stuff about the program and cannot find where it say who has to have it and who doesn't.

Yeah, the place I flew charter for didn't fingerprint, but we did do the GSC/ISC idiocy. Go figure. Friendly FSDO?
Even more annoying is when you have a "customer" that grills you about it ALL the time. "Don't really give a #$#@ dude!" is what I want to say SO bad!

"Yes, I'm both the GSC and the PIC. Should I consider you a Threat to Murica? Great. Here's your seat".
I LOVE their examples of what a suspicious box/person/activity looks like! :bounce: "What are you going to do if someone is poking around your airplane?" "Poke" them in the face! :D
