It's been a dream of mine for more than two years to be able to attend Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University. I got accepted in February and was offered scholarships. It was great.

Now, nine days away from moving into my on-campus apartment, I find out I'm turned down for a private loan which would have taken care of my first Sallie Mae monthly payment of $1810.42 and covered some flight training hours.

I'm running out of options! I've been trying to apply for private loans all summer, only to be turned down because of my young credit history and my co-signers' bad credit. No word on whether I won any $500 scholarships from essay contests until the day before school.

I need a little more security than that! Does anyone have any ideas as to what I could try to do at this point? I already tried to cancel my meal plan and get $1300 (rough estimate) back, but I had only 21 credits transfer from my last school, which makes me a freshman requiring the biggest meal plan they have..........

Anyone wanna give me a dollar? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

Any advice on finding a credit-worthy co-signer or finding money to pay for all of this, please let me know!

Call up ERAU Financial Aid, they are very good at getting money... I know a lot of people who went to Riddle that I thought could never afford it...

Don't give up, you can make it work...

Thanks for the encouragement! I keep trying to tell myself the same thing, but it's harder today for some reason. Maybe it's the sore throat. I'm such a baby!

I'll call them tomorrow since they just closed their offices for today. Or maybe I can e-mail my finaid counselor right now.

you could create a website and call it "Cristl needs to go to school".. and ask people for donations.. I know a few websites out there that have had some interesting donors and donations! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

just s'plain your story.. show a cutesy photo, sign up to paypal and off you go!! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Thanking my lucky stars I'm not Kristie's Loan Officer! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

I'm walking to Boston today (too angry to fly!) to kick one of the guys at the processing center in his family jewels.

Thanks for the inspiration Kristie!

Note to Self: Self, whenever visiting ERAU-PRC wear steal cup and be nice to any female students that look anything like Crystal, are named Crystal, or who have names that start with a C (just in case!), etc...

Hang in there, keep on asking around, as Falcon suggested, hopefully, ERAU will be able to
help you out. As for the sore throat, we can take up a donation of cough drops! Just trying
to cheer you up...

I was having problems getting money to go to UND. Their financial aid office was very helpful. They thought of things I didn't think of trying. It basically came down to mostly loans. But I'll have a descent job while there and should be able to pay it back before or just after graduation so no interest will be charged.

Note to self ...interesting... by the time I even reach for the 'reply' button, she's already got 8 or 9 enthusiastic replies...straaaaange... hahah!

Well I'm a sophomore in high school and I'm involved in ROTC, Band, and Bussines Professioanals of America. I get good grades and am getting more and more service hours. I'm sure these things will facilitate my way into college.

I have a solid streak of A's on my transcript from SUNY, and did so much community related work that I fell asleep like a little puppy in between classes and meetings.

It does help tremendously to be a part of so many organizations and clubs, and to make good grades. It did pay for about 1/3 of my total college bill! There are, however, only so many merit scholarships you can aqcuire with the right timing, you know what I mean?

On a side note, someone please show me a picture of an airplane so I feel better. I think I'm coming down with something. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazy.gif Let's get those coughdrop donations going!

"Proud of ya'", but... This has what to do with Crystal's situation?
