In a United employee's garage, anyway.

Fliers nostalgic for the golden era of air travel might want to book a trip to Anthony Toth's garage.

Mr. Toth has built a precise replica of a first-class cabin from a Pan Am World Airways 747 in the garage of his two-bedroom condo in Redondo Beach, Calif. The setup includes almost everything fliers in the late 1970s and 1980s would have found onboard: pairs of red-and-blue reclining seats, original overhead luggage bins and a curved, red-carpeted staircase.

Once comfortably ensconced, Mr. Toth's visitors can sip beverages from the long-defunct airline's glasses, served with Pan Am logo swizzle sticks and napkins, plus salted almonds sealed in Pan Am wrappers. They can even peel open a set of plastic-wrapped, vintage Pan Am headphones and listen to original in-flight audio recordings from the era, piped in through the armrests.

that's funny. I worked for the Pan Am when it was based out of KPSM in the 90's. I still love me some 727s.

That's nothing. There is a rich mo-fo in Kansas city that has an entire concorde cockpit forward in a glass case in his sideyard viewable from the street. Don't ask me where it was:dunno: I was new to the city and couldn't remember where.

That is pretty cool. A bit strange, perhaps...but cool.

My first commercial flight was on a Pan Am 37-200. Still a cool looking airplane.

Oh yeah...did you notice in the article that the guy is single? I can't imagine why :)

Yeah, I was thinking that this dude needs to get some tail or something but hey, whatever floats his boat.

I know he's not married because if he was, his wife would be like, will you get that crap out of our garage?

I don't mean to step on any toes, but the Pease Pan Am outfit was a complete degradation to the Pan Am name. That and Boston Maine Airways was a huge disaster. I'm just glad they went away before they had time to put a plane in the dirt.

It was however good for non-stop flights from BGR to PIE (where my grandmother lives) for wicked cheap. Its nice that Allegiant is filling that void starting next month. Unfortunately it means that if you want to go anywhere besides central florida from BGR you have to drive to at least Portland. Fricken airport manager.....don't get me started.

There are also TONS of rail box cars with the Pan Am logo floating around the northeast. I think Boston & Maine (which was originally a rail company) still owns all the trademarks and stuff.
